This is your classic German restaurant. Service is a little slow, but I think they were just honestly busy. The portions are huge and the beer menu is even bigger

To start off with, my wife and I visit Bier Garden every couple of months -- after a movie at the Commodore, or riding bikes around P-Town, or just because we want to sit on the patio and enjoy a nice evening breeze while trying a different, non-American beer. We will continue to do so. That said, we've avoided eating... More

With over 360 beers on their menu, you have a hard time choosing what you want to try. It may take several visits to taste many beers from around the world. German and Belguim beers are most predominant. The restaurant serves German food, and it is average in taste. Location is along the main street in downtown old Portsmouth. The... More

My biggest draw to this place was the beer, where I was able to get some of my favorite Belgian and Dutch beers that I haven't seen outside of Europe before. Be warned though, rare beers come at a high price. Food was excellent and priced right. Probably the best spot on main street.

The Bier Garden has been around a long time, I've been going there over 20 years. Their beer selection is clearly the most extensive in the Tidewater area, and contains many quality imports you just can't get anywhere else in the area. The food, to match, is outstanding, classic German fare. They've changed their spatzle recipe, however, and they need... More

This place was not bad at all, great ambiance and great staff. The food is an interesting American take on German food, all tasted pretty good except the fries (change the oil). The beer selection is huge but very expensive. Overall a great place to visit, unique in Hampton Roads, you won't be disappointed.

We were immediately seated and served quickly on a Summer Saturday afternoon for lunch. We started with a pretzel - delicious - served with German mustard. We all had a selection of the wursts - very good as well. The sides - choices include red cabbage, spatzel, sauerkraut, fries among others - are authentic as well. Having lived in Germany... More

I was there on an early Friday evening, the place was busy, was not that crowded. The kitchen staff was obviously having trouble with catching up. It took 45 minutes for the guy sitting next to me to get his sausages, and 35 minutes for me to get my schnitzel. The food was vey good, but it would have been... More

We happened upon this little gem as we were just looking around the ghent area for somewhere to grab a bite to eat with two children. Couldn't have picked better, they were accommodating and had a great menu, very cosy and easy going atmosphere. Our waitress tiffany attended to our every need, I had the bier garden burger and it...
