Went with friends to dine. Made reservations and had an enjoyable meal. There was no problem in the food itself. Stove utilizes local foods and does a phenomenal job incorporating it into their menu and making limited foods very appealing. My review is rated as such due to the staff. In the course of my time there, the party I... More

Great and knowledgeable service, but catering to one distinctive palate..spicy. If you like heavily seasoned; intense spicy southern food you'll probably love the dishes. Limited menu. However, the best grits I have ever had the pleasure of eating.

Stove is definitely one of my favorites. Sydney is a culinary mad genius. The seating is limited and you can often find the owner sipping a bubbly after he has finished in the kitchen. He lives across the street and sources most of his ingredients locally and always fresh. We always look forward to his specials as it introduces us... More

This small restaurant was recommended to us by the locals at our marina so we decided to give it a try. We were warned it was quite pricey, but worth it. There was also a Groupon that we used, $60 off for $30. It is a small restaurant in a converted house in historic Portsmouth with lots of art on... More

My husband and I have traveled here from Great Bridge quite a few times because the food is wonderful and quite a bit different from "mainstay" restaurant food. We have never been disappointed in our selections. If you want to try true Southern grits, don't miss out of one the menu choices (i.e. Shrimp and Grits) that includes the grits.... More

Recently my wife and I tried Stove. We wanted to try it based on Sydney Meers' reputation for upscale dining in an eclectic setting. Eclectic is right. The dining room is decorated with the chef's paintings and an assortment of mementos all painted in vibrant colors. Pretty much to be expected if you've ever eaten in his previous restaurants. The... Met another couple here for dinner since I've been wanting to go for quite some time. Our server was wonderful and very, very informative. We decided to have a cheese appetizer and let him pick his favorite 3...which were a blue, a cheddar and a salt goat...my favorites were the cheddar and goat but the guys both loved the blue.... What a great place. Fabulous Bloody Mary's. Wonderful, delicious, eclectic food. Highly recommend. Very much like Foster's Bighorn in Rio Vista, CA.

Four of us traveled to Portsmouth for dinner Saturday evening, purpose of which was to enjoy a great meal and celebrate my birthday. As always, we have never had an "average" meal at this establishment...only exceptionally prepared food from an extremely interesting menu. We love this place for its eccentricities of decor, its ability to be classy without being pretentious,... More

My wife and myself had been wanting to try this restaurant. We purchased a groupon and made our reservation for a Thursday night 6PM seating. I used to visit the building in my youth years when it was a former barbershop. You enter into a small bar area and proceed to the dining section. Here we were happily welcomed and... More
