Glass walls at the front of the outdoor area and large windows opening to the sea air capture the light and view for all diners in all weather with new modern alfresco furniture. The Penneshaw Hotel – also known as the “Penny”- has both inside and alfresco dining areas giving the hotel a relaxed casual feel. However, there's nothing casual about the excellent presentation and consistency of the food. With a superb wine list, some of the best pub food SA has to offer and competitive function options the Penny is a perfect crowd pleaser.

The food here is typical pub food with a fine dining price tag. The first day I had the Whiting which was nice and my wwife had chicken schnitzel which she said was ordinary. Next day I had the steak which was cooked medium rare but served almost cold, my wife had the linguini which she enjoyed... read more

Visited this pub/hotel after recommendations from locals. Ordered chicken schnitzel with chips & salad and Grilled whiting with chips and salad with 2 glasses of bay of shoals riesling. The portion size of grilled whiting was literally tiny with 1 small fillet with overloaded chips and tiny salad for $24!!! My partner ate the small fillet and left hungry skipping... More

Fancied a pub meal and a pint during my first night in Kangaroo Island. This was the first place we found. Landlord a charming fellow. Restaurant relatively modern and some good food being served. I highly recommend the chicken schnitzel with peppercorn sauce. The views on the balcony are simply breathtaking. Gaurentee you won't find a better view in any... More

We liked this Hotel so went for 2 of the 3 nights. Would have been 3 for 3 but we only found it the second one. OK selection but very tasty and decent sizes for a reasonable price

We have visited this hotel on a few occasions and on each visit, we have not been disappointed. Meals have been well cooked and there is a good variety....not just your normal Aussie pub fare (eg schnitzel). Servings are a good size...there could be a better selection of wines....not just chardonnay or sauvignon blanc in the whites.

Do try the Kangaroo steak, and flush it down with a glass of red from one of the KI wineries. The views from here are fantastic. Kudos for the entertaining kids menu...

Friendly staff and great food! Unfortunately, there was a very large party of very loud people eating dinner before their ferry return. This made it a little uncomfortable to enjoy the experience although the food was good.

Great spot, fabulous location overlooking ocean, lovely fresh seafood BUT let down by sticky tables, grubby toilet doors, huge wait for service, and half hour wait for food. To finish it all, the manager was quite gruff and upon leaving he was outside smoking. This was all very disappointing as it is a prime spot for overseas visitors.

Bad and rude service Received meals 10 minutes apart from each other even tho there was only one other group inside. "Fresh" Fish was overcooked and smelt bad, staff were rude and did not help at all when asked about it Definitely would not go back.
