Located in a very non-descript building, Real Food only accepts cash or checks, but was well worth the trip to find an ATM. We were headed through Orange on our way back fro Montpelier and needed lunch. The food was awesome - very fresh and locally sourced. From what I hear, the menu change soften but there was still a... What a fabulous place! I never expected to find a spot like this in Orange, Va. It's a teeny little dot of a building that was a Tastee-Freeze in a former life. I got a perfectly prepared salmon sandwich and wonderful root vegetable soup. It's a very friendly place with super cute retro decor and very reasonable prices. Lunch only... More

Excellent food like fine dining, but out of a box (I got take out), and prices reflect that :). With small kids, I haven't been fine dining in years, and this was a special treat. I hesitantly (because I'm not a fan of squash) ordered Curried Butternut Squash soup. It was incredible! It was $2.75 for about 2/3 cup. I... More

There are some fancy inns in the area with expensive dining menus, but I would forego any of them to eat the food at this roadside cafe. Plan your visit around their 11-2 hours for eat in or take out. Check out their menu on their website before you go as it changes weekly. The husband and wife who cook... More

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but if you're looking for a mean lunch, don't look any further.

My wife and I had been touring Madison's Montpelier home and were looking for a nearby place for a light lunch. She found Real Food on Trip Advisor. When we arrived (GPS worked fine) and saw the very unassuming looking small building, we would never have stopped and gone in if not for very good reviews on TA. We were... More

If you want lunch anywhere in central Virginia....make a trip to Real Food in Orange. They make super fresh food using local ingredients and all of that at a reasonable price. Why would anyone pay to eat fast food when a place like this is around. The service is great and done by the owners of the restaurant so you... More

Loved that there was no sign. Place was a buzz with local regulars so you know it has to be good. Food was excellent. Started with a very tasty asparagus and mozzarella salad (for only 2 bucks). Then had a very delicious ham and brie sandwich...they slice the bread fresh for each sandwich...yum. Good food, good prices, good service....will return.

If you're near Orange, VA at lunchtime and you're not looking for a fancy (remotely fancy) eatery catering to your sense of self-importance...AND if you'd like to sample perhaps the best sandwich or salad or SOUP (and cookies--2 for a buck!) you have ever eaten, Real Food (in the former Tastee Frreeze across the road from the Comfort Inn) is... Whew, we found it with the help of our smartphones, but this place sure is nondescript! The owner explained that they were "between signs," which is fine for locals, but we were on a day trip to James Madison's Montpelier from Richmond. Nevertheless, if you find Real Food, you are in for a treat, and it's only open for lunch.... More
