Whenever we come to Balboa Island, we always make a stop at Dad's to grab either a frozen banana or a balboa bar. Both are quite yummy. Its a good thing they are right next to the church as the treats are sinfully tasty.

Go to Dad's in the morning. Grab a coffee and a donut and mingle. You might chat it up with a bare-foot surfer or a multi-multi millionaire. The crowd here is different from Starbucks a block away. I'm not saying one group is better than the other, just different.

This is where I do my half way stop for my donut and coffee while I'm out paddle boarding. So friendly the owner even knows which donut I like considering I only go there on my monthly holiday every july . Excellent good old fashioned service .

Seems everyone was clamoring for a frozen treat at each of the "Balboa Bar" locales in this area. This shop had the best reviews, but honestly, it was just a plain vanilla ice cream bar dipped in chocolate and your choice of topping. Nothing that special. You can do it just to say you did, but if you can't make... More

So traumatized that they changed the size and recipe of their donuts. They are smaller and the texture is awful. I had to throw it away! I've been going there since I was a little girl and so sad I'll never go back. Change it back!!

This has been an old haunt for the past 50 years or so. If you have never had a frozen banana before, stop here and get one. They are great. This is just a place for some treats after a meal or you could make a meal of the treats.

A trip to Newport Beach and Balboa Island is not complete without a stop at Dad's. A small bakery and ice cream shop (with balboa bars and frozen bananas too). Pick up the Hippo Cookies for friends and family and be sure to have one yourself. Iced in a dozen beautiful colors…irresistible!

For $3.50 you can have the best dessert in town. Head over to Dad's on Balboa island for a Balboa bar. A square chunk of ice cream dipped in chocolate and then choose your topping. I have chopped almonds and chopped peanuts. So delicious! I am already planning on taking my family for this delicious treat.

Lovely little doughnut and coffee shop that also sells ice cream. The donuts and pastries are freshly baked and the coffee is hot. The staff and smiley and nice. There's no seating inside but it's very pleasant to sit on the bench outside and people watch.

This what is undermining Trip Advisor's reputation. Number 2 restaurant on Balboa Island? This is not a restaurant by any standard anyone could apply. It's a bakery / donut shop. With history maybe. You can buy coffee to go with your donut and consume both on the street outside or take them home. Personally I found both the coffee and... More
