great tasting bakery and frozen bananas

Dad's has been around forever and a few years beyond that. We love the applesauce and blueberry donuts, the buttermilk are also great. I just cannot eat them every day because I would look like I was wearing an innertube. Dads also has Balboa bars, an ice cream bar dipped in chocolate and... read more

Okay, so the debate has raged for years about who was the "original" place to sell frozen bananas. Who cares? What matters is who has the BEST. Dad's hands down. They also have Balboa Bars and killer Apple fritters. The frozen yogurt is the best on the island.

As a little kid growing up in Newport, this was always my go to place for Balboa Islands legendary Balboa Bars. Decades later nothing has changed, this place is still fantastic, and now that I live 3,000 miles away I visit on every trip home. I love passing this onto a new generation by taking my nephew and niece there.... More

Its all good. Morning coffee, donuts. Mid day and night time ice cream and chocolate covered bananas and Balboa bars. Can't go wrong. Don't be fooled by others this is the best place for world famous chocolate covered bananas and Balboa bars. Well run by same hard working family for years.

Dads is a walk in place for ice cream as well as their delicious donuts. The price is right, the people are friendly, and it's fun.

We stopped in Saturday morning and got an apple saue doughnut, an old fashion with chocolate doughnut, an apple fritter and a couple cups of coffee. This is a cool place, small, no seats. We got our doughnuts and walked over to the water and ate our treats. They were fantastic. made fresh with real ingredients. We will be back

Rather than stop at Starbucks, we usually try to find a local shop. Not that Starbucks is bad, but we have found local places to be better. Dad's is just down the street from Starbucks on Balboa Island, but it's a world away. A small, family-style bakery and ice cream goodie place, they have been in business since the 1960s.... More

Balboa Island is a lovely block of shops and quick bites, one of which is Dad's Donut Shop. My daughter and I came here in November, and had to bring my husband and son to taste the Balboa Bars. They have vanilla ice cream on a stick, and then dip it in hot melted chocolate and then in your choice... More

Whenever we come to Balboa Island, we always make a stop at Dad's to grab either a frozen banana or a balboa bar. Both are quite yummy. Its a good thing they are right next to the church as the treats are sinfully tasty.

Go to Dad's in the morning. Grab a coffee and a donut and mingle. You might chat it up with a bare-foot surfer or a multi-multi millionaire. The crowd here is different from Starbucks a block away. I'm not saying one group is better than the other, just different.
