A visit to Newport Beach is not complete without a visit to The Crab Cooker (see the reviews) and Ruby's Diner on the pier. Yeah, you may have to wait for a table, but the people watching (and the fish they catch) are memorable. Once you score a table the burgers and shakes are fantastic. My favorite is the "Oreo"... This diner has a beautiful location end of the pier and fabulous roof top seating area ... Milkshakes were good but served in paper cups without even the extra bit in the maker ... Service very slow .. But what a view

We had lunch at Ruby's and the food was good and the servings were good sized. Our server was very good and attentive. And being right on the water was great. The one thing that surprised us was no restrooms in the diner. The closest restrooms were at the beginning of the pier - a long way away. But overall,... More

A group of us had Easter dinner here. The food was not traditional Easter fare, needless to say, but very tasty, perhaps due to the fresh ocean air. Servers were fun and being on the pier was as well.

Enjoyed delicious milkshakes and some fries after a long walk all around Balboa Island, Beach and Pier. Its a basic diner - nothing fancy but we sat upstairs on the outside deck, albeit breezy, had great friendly service and lovely views.

We have previously been to Ruby's at Huntington Beach and had really good food/experience. So decided to visit Ruby's in Balboa Peninsular. The Diner is smaller than Huntington Ruby's but you can eat outside. The menu is also smaller obviously because the venue is considerably smaller. The waiter is so happy he was laughing any smiling all the time we... More

Loved the walk on the pier to get to the diner. The food was basic diner food. Great waitress! A bit stuffy in side (no ac). We obviously wanted to eat out side...we're from the Palm Springs area.

Ruby's Diner is one of our favorite places to take the kids. It's especially nice when we are on Balboa Pier. I would definitely recommend that visitors to Balboa/Newport Beach come here at least one to experience it. It's a beautiful walk down the pier with pretty easy parking. Typical Fifties Diner food and really good. The shakes are great,... More

You really can't beat the view. An All-American place, very cute, greasy though yummy menu. A great place for lunch.

Having spent the day on Balboa beach and in need of an ice cream we wandered down the pier to Ruby's Diner. I'm not sure how old the building is (whether it is indeed an authentic Fifties diner - I believe it's part of a chain) but it looked the part, decked out in red and white with leatherette seating...
