Beautiful fronted building. On entry the front rooms are dark and Dickensian in appearance but don't be deterred - this pub is an absolute gem. Further inside the building lightens up and you are greeted with friendly staff and a comprehensive selection of drinks including a good range of well kept real ales. If this is not enough, the food... More

I was a regular here last year but had a couple of bad experiences with food and a member of staff. I reviewed the Prince Rupert in October as I felt it was losing its appeal and dropping its high standards. It is only fair that I review it again as it has now returned a great pub again, and... I would say that this is the best pizza in Newark but that would be doing it an injustice. It's up there with the best in the country. Really tasty thin and crispy base that only needs a couple of toppings to taste amazing. Not tried any of the non-pizza offerings but saw a few dishes coming out of the... More

Although we regularly have a drink in this pub, we hadn't eaten here. Our party of 8 all had different things from the wide ranging and interesting menu, and we were all very happy with our meals. The quality was great, and there was plenty on the plate. Couple this with the range of beers, and its a great place... More

I've been coming to this pub since it opened as the Prince Rupert and I come here almsot always when in town for drinks with friends/family. Their house cider is rather nice and there are regularly guest ciders on which I enjoy trying on occasion also. I've eaten here several times also, the pizzas are well made and worth the... More

Just had a Sunday Lunch at this pub/restaurant. The food was very good and well cooked. Best of all was the service! Really delightful staff who went out of their way to make sure everything was as good as it could be. The bar was well stocked with some great ales and the "courtyard" was ideal to spend a lunchtime... More

A very good restoration of this very old pub. I remember it in its earlier more grubby incarnation and this is a great improvement. Good range of English and Continental beers.

The standard has perked up nicely of late although the food is still served in a ludicrous fashion ( i.e. individual pots and jars for everything, 2ft long wooden platters etc.) However, the quality and quantity is excellent. They also have a knack of finding really nice staff.

My mum had popped over so we needed somewhere for a decent lunch. With it being a monday many of the restaurants were closed so we dropped into the Prince Rupert. This elegant pub ,recently renovated, has rarely disappointed and didn't today. We chose a Black Pudding and Stilton burger. Falafel with salad and Corned Beef Hash off a varied and... More

We had sunday lunch here with friends. The lamb shank itself was good but the remainder you could keep quite frankly! This meal came with cous cous, no sign of any other carbs or veg making it a very small meal indeed. Theres no need to scrimp on this because its the lamb that costs the money, not the veg!... More
