A very good restoration of this very old pub. I remember it in its earlier more grubby incarnation and this is a great improvement. Good range of English and Continental beers.

The standard has perked up nicely of late although the food is still served in a ludicrous fashion ( i.e. individual pots and jars for everything, 2ft long wooden platters etc.) However, the quality and quantity is excellent. They also have a knack of finding really nice staff.

My mum had popped over so we needed somewhere for a decent lunch. With it being a monday many of the restaurants were closed so we dropped into the Prince Rupert. This elegant pub ,recently renovated, has rarely disappointed and didn't today. We chose a Black Pudding and Stilton burger. Falafel with salad and Corned Beef Hash off a varied and... More

We had sunday lunch here with friends. The lamb shank itself was good but the remainder you could keep quite frankly! This meal came with cous cous, no sign of any other carbs or veg making it a very small meal indeed. Theres no need to scrimp on this because its the lamb that costs the money, not the veg!... More

Last time I visited I said "probably the best and certainly the most expensive" However having now had a meal there I have to say it's still not cheap BUT EXCELLENT value for money! So I have to apologise and say I'll be back to eat again. Great choice of well kept beers and good range of wines.

Discovered the Prince Rupert whilst looking for a relaxed drink with my family and am now a regular visitor. Always find the staff to be welcoming and happy. Fantastic selection of drinks in a beautiful building. Food was brilliant with a great choice on the menu for all tastes, management even helped with changing items on the menu to fit... More

Imagine four adults, two young children, a toddler and a pushchair rolling up asking for a Sunday lunch at your pub restaurant. Not many landlords would welcome that situation. But... At the Prince Rupert pub & restaurant in Newark, they didn't even bat an eyelid. They just welcomed us in, gave us the choice of two upstairs rooms to choose... More

No longer serves food all day and so expensive - went elsewhere to eat. Others seem to be doing the same - just staying for 1 drink. Used to enjoy the cosy rooms with candles on the tables but now just seems to be going downhill fast. Dirty tables and one grumpy bar maid on duty. Will think twice before... More
