They do a good job!

They do a great job here - lovely staff, nice ambiance of an old building and good section of food, drink and whatever!

This is obviously a favourite with some regulars as the restaurant was fully utilised during our Sunday visit and the numerous staff coped well with all requests. I enjoyed the terrine starter very much, followed by a complimentary soup but found the main roast offering lacking in much flavour not withstanding an ample supply of requested extra gravy and a... We have been using The Stanneylands for over 20 years and not once has the standard dropped! Delicious reasonably priced table d'hôte and a la cart menu; oak panelled dining rooms ;smartly dressed staff; linen tablecloths etc. Perfect for weddings and birthdays' when you want a bit more style, but don't want to break the bank. Without a doubt South... More

We arrived for afternoon tea as part of a funeral party. Greeted by a most wonderful welcoming gentleman, who immediately explained where bathroom facilities were and then took us through to the bar area for pre drinks. He took our coats and hung them on a rail as we entered. Lovely relaxed surroundings and we didn't interfere with paying guests... More

Food was okay, but nothing to excite us, and for a 5 course taster menu the main was far too big. We were the only dinners in the restaurant on a Friday lunch time! The panelled dinning room is very elegant.

We had the sampler menu at lunchtime, and what a treat. 5 courses, including a whopper chicken meal as the main. Really happy with service and food quality, some very "fine-dining" dishes, which tingle the taste buds! we left very full and satisfied - the sampler menu would also suit very well for a dinner. A good variety of wines... More

Visited for a sunday lunch, whilst the dining room was attractive with oak panelling and crisp white tablecloths, the food was distinctly average. The starter arrived as we were literally sitting down, the main course of pork was served with an awful mass of black pudding mash which was inedible.I mentioned it to the waiter who said" is the meat alright?" The best part... More

Came for lunch to celebrate a good friend's 60th birthday. A very enjoyable afternoon was enjoyed by everyone in the party, 12 of us. The hotel is spacious and has some comfortable seating areas, we had pre lunch drinks in a lounge before going through to the restaurant for the meal. After the meal we went back into the lounge... Visited here with my wife and young daughter for a late-ish lunch on a Saturday. The hotel is only a short drive from where we live, and with it holding 2 AA Rosettes, it was somewhere we'd wanted to try for a little while. The initial greeting was friendly and the service was good throughout; there was never a hint... More

I rarely do these reviews but I was so disappointed with this restaurant I felt compelled to share it, in the hope they may do something to improve, at least the coffee, which is diabolically bad. This is the second time I have visited this place in about 3 months. The first time was for an evening meal for my... More
