Description: Housed in a 16th Century building in the historic town of Horsham, Restaurant Tristan opened in 2008 and has been a firm favourite with local foodies ever since. Inside, original wooden beams contrast with contemporary style to create an intimate setting for lunch or dinner. Chef and Proprietor Tristan Mason worked in top restaurants like The Greenhouse and Mirabelle before becoming Head Chef at The Hare where he achieved his first Michelin Star. The menu at Restaurant Tristan is predominantly British with some creative French influences, with dishes like terrine of pheasant and turbot with truffle risotto taking centre stage. Ingredients are locally sourced wherever possible and the extensive wine list is designed to complete this truly unforgettable dining experience.

We celebrated my wife's birthday and chose the sample menu. Many courses with a different wine to accompany each. Food is superb and staff were very attentive, friendly and knew their food and wine. From the moment we walked in to the time we left (quite a while later) we were treated so well. Plan to be there a bit longer... More

Food so good that it is worth a county-wide detour. Very skilfully executed dishes, good flavours, creative without lapsing into gastro-parody. More of a cafe feel downstairs. Upstairs is timbered, bright and airy. Excellent wine list. Only downsides: unbearably naff piped music (Emile Sande on loop?), the dreaded 'feature wall' wallpaper slotted amid the old beams, and fantastically slow service... More

We had the tasting menu which was delicious and reasonably priced. The ambience was lovely, the restaurant packed, and the service exemplary. Altogether a very enjoyable evening. We will be going back, but may not wait for the special occasion before we do.

We were seated 'downstairs' which is in fact street level, as the main restaurant which is upstairs was full, but this was fine. Had the two course set lunch - it is not cheap and the selection is very limited, but the food was exquisite. Food is modern, so lots of flavours thrown in, and I think there is a... More

Six of us went to Tristan to say goodbye to my nephew who recently moved up to Scotland to become a Soux chef at one of their best Hotels. The service was first rate and the food was amazing. The attention to detail was exceptional and the experience was everything you would expect from a restraint of this calibre. It... More

We spend much time in restaurants across the world and to have one of our favouites on our doorstep is a priviledge. This is fine dining at its best without breaking the bank. If you like high quality French themed, relaxed dining this is a must. We eat here on a regular basis and are never disappointed although now they... More

My husband and I dine here, maybe, twice a year and every time, it has been a fabulous experience. Generally the food is seasonal, with more often than not, game somewhere on the menu. The menu is very select and changes on a regular basis. The dishes are always presented well and cooked perfectly. The customer service is next to... More

My wife and I went there for our birthday treat and what a treat it was. I had hake for my starter and she had the most delicious scallops ever. Her main was the guinea fowl and I had the belly pork and it was perfectly cooked and moist from the first bite to the last. The new potatoes we... More

Visited twice in 2 weeks, the team were faultless on both nights, great to see the restaurant busy even midweek! We had a lovely relaxed informal evening, the food was great, good portion size and the recommendations for drinks were spot on. Highly recommended and we booked our return visit with another group of friends. See you soon.

I took my partner here for a treat and what a pleasure it was. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable; staff were attentive and pleasant but not overbearing or intrusive. My starter of scallops and squid with ink risotto was velvety and perfectly cooked, followed by wild boar and a crispy black cabbage which was a first for me but... More
