Beautiful Dining Room with Very Good Food

Had dinner here while staying overnight in the hotel. Beautiful dining room set for Christmas. Good choices on the menu with a reasonable wine list. It was going to be a nice quiet dinner in a wonderful place until the six ladies due in that night arrived. This group was loud, constantly criticized... read more

We just had to give Gilbert's a mention, my wife and I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and every time the meals have been outstanding, as well as the ever helpful, attentive staff and the elegant dining room. If you stay at the hotel overnight their delicious cooked breakfast the following morning is definitely something to look... More

I've been to this place, just up the road from the college where I work, on a number of occasions over the past 7 years. I've also put a lot of business their way. This was the most disappointing visit. We had the £19.50 set 2 course Xmas lunch. I paid a £2.50 supplement for the "assiette of fish" which... More

Went to Gilbert for a special occasion. We opted for the set menu for dinner. The service was excellent and really couldn't be faulted. The food was definitely worth the money. We paid somewhere in the region of £20 for the fixed menu but the quality of the food was in the £40 plus bracket. The surroundings are beautiful and... More

Please see previous review. Beautiful hotel, but non helpful restaurant staff with one that i think couldn't speak English and one that was quite rude. Food offering not as good as a few years ago

Great House and grounds. The Restaurant has its own entrance (door doesn't open till 7pm - prompt). Fixed price menu is a good deal. The food was very good and the service was fine except none of the staff seemed to smile. maybe we caught them on a bad day!

Wonderful little gem of a restaurant in an historic building surrounded by beautiful gardens: whether you are looking for a place to impress your prospective business partners or your romantic date, this off the track restaurant is the ideal place. Best fish and chips I have ever eaten and afternoon tea is something special indeed. Staff is professional and friendly.... More

We've been lunching at the Grimsdyke for the last 6 years and and have had an excellent experience every time - welcome, ambience, cuisine and service. The £12.95 lunch menu is superb value, though it does tempt you to indulge in the wines. Today was wild mushrooms in a cream and wine sauce followed by the Grimsdykes classic confit duck;... More
