I've been to the Lowther many times before – their breakfasts are legendary and it's the perfect spot to meet friends for lunch (and a cocktail or two). The first thing to note as you walk into the Lowther is how warm and welcoming the place is. We were immediately attended to and shown to our table by the lovely... More

With a party of 16 persons we arrived and informed the reception that due to illness we were 5 persons short of our booking. This was met with a scowling face and show of displeasure. The soup was in short supply on the plate with a telltale ring of microwave warming, served with a slice of bread cut in 4... More

Loved the relaxed and civilised atmosphere- great for a mix of people to enjoy. They do need to learn how to make a Gibson though!

We took the family for a Sunday carvery. It was OK, not sure that I'd go again for one. The carvery itself had lots to offer, but not all of it was up to standard. The Yorkshire puddings were underdone and runny. A bad sign. The crackling was the opposite. I kid you not, the piece I had was unbreakable.... More

I visit the Lowther quite often. The decor and the fabric of the property are first class. The staff are always courteous and very accommodating. The bar area is pleasant and friendly and the restaurant is bright and modern, it feels good to walk into, so expectations are high. However, I find the standards of the food to be inconsistent,... Food is fantastic, portions are large, brilliant value, amazing surroundings, welcoming and homely and in a building filled with both history and character. I highly recommend.

The food was beautiful, good menu and excellent service. Lovely atmosphere - piped music not too loud or intrusive.

The passion which the owners have for this establishment is evident in everything about the place, from the decor to the food. Everything is classy and professional and the building is a historical gem.

It's a while since we ate here after being disappointed last time. For this review, if I was reviewing the food quality alone, I would give a rating of very good, but other things let it down badly this time. On the positive side, the quality of food has much improved - very tasty and beautifully presented, however portion size... More

Have now been twice since the new chef was appointed. Food is delicious and beautifully presented. Excellent value. Had black pudding with crispy duck egg to start, duck for main which was superb. Staff very attentive. Would highly recommend.
