Good pub food but pretensions for gastro pub are not realistic

Good food Generally but quality can tail off if busy. Fish platter good and special dishes are good but menu is limited. Nice beers.

Im surprised by the poor reviews by some, we have been at least 6 times, either we are lucky and others not, but Sunday dinner for 6 could not have been better, service was very quick ( 12.30pm ) food was really good, especially the cheese & onion pie and the venison scotch egg.

I had heard many positive comments about the C & B so was happy when a colleague suggested it for a farewell dinner. The decor, staff and food were all delightful. Three courses for £15 - money well spent! Looking forward to a return in the near future. Very highly recommended.

This is the second time I have visited this restaurant and I'm still not convinced. For starter I had the ribs, it was actually just one large rib on the bone, although the meat fell off the bone I don't think there was that much flavour in the meat. My partner and I shared Nigel Howarth's hot pot, no disrespect... More

Visited the pub on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with my friend and daughter . On first impressions the interior is really nice . We had a drink in the bar area first then were seated at our table in the restaurant that we had booked a few weeks previous . Decided to order nibbles to have before our starters... More

Oh Dear, what is happening to the Clog and Billy? Some of our food was cold again - my game skewer was cold and dry and not much better when it came back after complaining. Some of the meat was also chewy. The Savoy cabbage was over salted and my husband's mushy peas were very dry. We also had the... More

Booked this with trepidation after reading the not so stellar reviews but i decided to give it a go and make my own mind up. Shouldnt have bothered. Service was shocking from start to finish. An hour for 'nibbles' to arrive then arriving with starters after requesting them first, no side plates given for said nibbles. Another hour for main... More

Where to start.. This was the fourth time I have eaten at this restaurant and this was by far the worst. There were eight of us for an early Mother's Day meal and each time we have been the food has been exceptional. However this time, the service was embarrassing and the food was not amazing either. The first round... More

Me and my sisters visited midweek for a meal the food was fine but the service, delivered by young staff was poor. Firstly It was slow whilst the pub was not busy we had to ask several times for things. Four wine glasses were put down but only 2 were required, no question of who was having the wine and... More
