Decent spot for lunch after Carisbrooke Castle visit

We were recommended this spot by the staff at the Carisbrooke Castle, it's just a few minute walks away. Decent pub with good food and quick service. A big portion of chicken fahitas, chips and salad was about 6 pounds.

We have been to the eight bells on several occasions, and have always had a good experience but unfortunately this time was not to be... Firstly we reserved a table for 12, when we arrived it was reserved for 3! The lady behind the bar appoligised and sorted us a table out straight away We ordered our meals one of... More

We went to the Eight Bells for lunch with two disabled people, access is ok and a member of staff did assist us open doors after seeing us struggle. The food was fine good sized portions and hot and well presented. Price was reasonable and the place having been modernised is a reasonable environment . Family orientated so being half... More

We all have off days but the old guy who was behind the bar when we went for lunch on Thursday needs Alex Polizzi to come in with her jackboots on, It doesn't matter how nicely painted the walls are or whether the chips are tasty, a pub can't expect people to come and spend money if its staff behave... A nice pub with good service but disappointing food. Ordered an 8oz burger and was incredulous when it arrived to find I was paying about £8 for 2 thin processed burgers that obviously came out of a freezer.

I first ate here in June 1996 and have returned regularly since but lately more frequently since the current landlord took over and who, with the assistance of his glamorous in house interior designer, has refurbished the bars and eating area to provide a very pleasant and welcoming environment to locals and tourists alike. I too found the staff uninviting... More

I first ate here in June last year, and found the food to be good but the staff uninviting. Back on the island for the week, this evening I returned to the Eight Bells after reading some really fantastic reviews on here. I found the same problems... Firstly, it took me quite a while to be initially greeted and served... More

Really recommend the Eight Bells for a meal. Excellent food, good service too. Having lived on the Island all my life, the Eight Bells was very popular way back, but then lost its touch. It's great to see that it's back to its former glory. By the way, the Manager is not grumpy , it's just the way he is!... More

Went to the Eight Bells for a Sunday lunch but both myself and my partner were tempted by the specials board. I had the seafood linguine and my partner chose the trout. Both of us recommend the specials as they were tasty dishes and good value for money coupled with good service on a busy Sunday
