Cafe des Alpes is on Chateau d'Oex's main street but just outside the heart of the town.  This is a definite plus as you are able to take advantage of the restaurant's huge front patio (well shaded from the sun) with a great view towards the mountains in the west.  If you're looking for fine dining, this is not the... Very basic caf but friendly staff. Very helpful with our vegetarian wheat free diet, but little choice. Had rosti but not very tasty. Wine cheaper than lager which is cheaper than cola.

Had a wonderful meal here in November. We tried a speciality braserade. Skewers of meat you cooked yourself over a flame, not in oil like a fondue. You could have horsemeat, steak or lamb.
