La Gruta is one of my favourite restaurants on the Costa Brava. Although this year the price for the menu del dio has risen from 15 to 17.50e it is still worth the money. Apart from the excellence of the food they offer a corked half bottle of wine in the price rather than the dubious open carafe of house... More

Varied menu with a very good selection of wine. Attentive host and very efficient service. Irish Coffee was sublime!

This is an extremely popular restaurant in L’Escala and you have to book if you want to eat here. We turned up one lunchtime hoping to get in without a reservation but had to go on a list which meant we couldn’t get in until 2.45pm. But it was well worth the wait. The décor is modern and comfortable and... More

I visited La Gruta for the second time on holiday this year. I know Escala pretty well, have been going for over 25 years and am under 30 and it's one of my favorite places to eat in the area. The restaurant is fitted out beautifully, the service is fantastic and the food is gorgeous. Without being really picky about... More

Visiting l'Escala for the last three years we have always visited La Gruta as it is one of the best in the area in our opinion. Michelin star starter (Tuna), excellent John Dory, but sadly disappointing desert with the shortbread over done and the fruit bland - hence the four stars rather than five. This said, the starter was to... More

Very good food, very nice service, you have to make a reservation. Only thing which is a minor point is the noise. But go there if you visit this town, it's worth it!

Before I go any further, non able bodied people, a word of caution......the toilets are at the bottom of very steep and narrow metal spiral staircase. It is narrow that you can use both hands and there are not too many steps. We went for lunch and had the menu of the day (you will need to book). Small restaurant,... More

Original menu, amazing food, great dining experience. Very welcoming staff, even specially-prepared an off-menu tuna tataki for our son. Affordable lunch menus at 15-20 euros are also quite the find in L'Escala.

We have now eaten in La Gruta several times and it just gets better. Friendly, efficient service, Catalan food with a French influence, always meets expectation. The lunch menu of the day, Monday to Friday changes daily and you are always given a great choice. Three courses including wine bread and water for 15 Euros. It is well worth travelling... More
