I stopped with some friends for a pre-dinner beer and we got a nice out-door table on the banks of the river. The view over the city of Porto is terrific, expecially at sunset. In fact, we liked the atmosphere so much that we decided to stay over for dinner, provided that we could keep the same table. Our only... More

This is a Restaraunt were I eat several times. Located on the Riverside of Gaia, it has a nice view. Here I recommend the Francesinha, in Portugues means “Little Frenchie” , it is a Portuguese sandwich originally from Porto, made with bread, ham, linguiça, fresh sausage, steak and covered with melted cheese and a hot tomato and beer sauce it... The unordered apertizers where the best whe had that dinner. Onely thing was the billed us for it! The meat on the plate was the only thing that tastend on the plate. The spaghetti Bolognese my 12 year old daughter could do better. Although a nice view the bill was 3 times more a café we ate the day before.... More

Poor service and not too good taste. On the plate only the meat was good. The spaghetti bolognese was realy bad. I believe my 12 year old daughter could de better. The food was very good, very friendly service and value for money. Much less touristy as compared to the restaurants on the other side of the Douro! In general, I would recommend restaurants on this side of the river. You have a great view on Porto, the river and the bridges, and ideally located for the sunset.

This restaurant is quite pleasant, with a fantastic viewe, since it is on the border of Douro River, and it has glassed walls. It has a nice atmosphere, and it is also very pleasant to sit on the outside, facing the river. The food is not so great, only average. The best thing to have are the "francesinhas", very well... Here on a business trip and was taken here by the firm I was visiting. We had a local speciality which is a posh style sandwich. It's a thick white bread with thin beef steak ham and sausage, cheese sarni. It's served with fries and some gravy. To be honest it's a carb fest and a tad heavy but it's... More

We had a bad feeling going in, but because it was highly recommended by the tourist office of Gaia, we went in anyway. The food was inedible, we sent both plates back (franchesina, and shrimps with garlic). The unrequested appetiser was as bad (cold dry bacalhau balls and bread with speck). Only thing we consumed was the beer. Great view.

With its panoramic windows overlooking to Duoro, this place offers probably the best view in Porto (well, it's actually in Vila Nova de Gaia, but it does look towards the main city of Porto). The real plus is that despite the prime location, Ar de Rio's food is pretty good value for money. The food is hardly exquisite, but it's... More
