Cozy-little eatery with fantastic food. As I said earlier, don't miss the Lemon Gelato, however full you are!

On a recent tour of Chianti country south of Florence, I took 3 visitors for lunch in Caste Montefioralle up above Greve. I had heard of this restaurant and wanted to try it out so we made reservations. What a wonderful experience! We ate on the terrace overlooking olive groves and vineyards and after several cheese-based "starters" our choices included... More

My brother and one of his friends came by this restaurant while hiking up the hill from Greve. Then our Italian drivers managed to make reservations for us on our third night in Greve. We asked our drivers to be our guests and then allowed them to order for us. We were served family style (we were about 10). We... More

On a recent visit to Tuscany, friends advised us to try La Castellana when looking for a special place to dine. It was a great recommendation! Firstly, the borgo (a small village) of Montefioralle is beyond stunning, and provides a wonderful tableau to set the scene for a memorable dinner. Narrow, medieval streets and pristine houses abound. At the restaurant,... More

We were recommended this ristorante by the people at Gallo Nero and we were not disappointed . The food the service and the view were all spectacular, our waitress was very helpful giving us directions to Florence. This place is a must when in Chianti

I don't understand the good reviews. Our appetiser was melon with ham. The melon had no taste and the ham was far from tasty . The main dish , steak, was below par and the spinach we had to give back. It tasted like a can of salt had fallen inside. My advise would be to stay away.

Dear Dave J We're so worried about your bad experience in our restaurant. By the way we'd like to inform you that we use only high-quality selected products from our region, we serve different type of cold cuts and we use onl fresh vegetables, from local farmers. We use only chianina-meat for the florentine-style steak, that is served rare and... More

Our first day in Tuscany, we walked up to the top of a hill overlooking Greve in Chianti. Discovering the hill town of Montefioralle, we also discovered La Castellana just along the wall overlooking the fields. Our gang was delighted, with the menu, food, our servers, the setting and the view. Ravioli with lemon, walnuts and gorgonzola was the best.

Completely came upon this restaurant by chance and immediately wanted to move to Montefioralle to enjoy the daily specials everyday. Fantastic view, delicious fresh food and wonderful staff who explained the menu, so well that you wanted to sample everything! Would definitely recommend it!

Charming restaurant, we were lucky as they had one table available (make reservations if possible). We sat inside but the outdoor little terrace looks beautiful (it was lightly raining the day we visited). Food OUTSTANDING. Everything I ordered had shaved truffles... burratta w/ truffles & arugula to start (about 10Euro) then ravioli w/ truffles (about 10Euro), plus wine, dessert... my... More

Staying in the area, we used Tripadvisor to see which was the best rated restaurant around and La Castellana came up in our search. An excellent meal, great service in a lovely little village. Well worth exploring the little town and then settling in to a delicious meal here. Not cheap, but great quality.
