An unexpected treasure in Piazza Armerina

Ambience: terrific, a touch of Bavaria, big wood burners, sloping roofs, very cosy. The owner is a collector of objects, even mineral water bottles. Food: excellent, delicate flavours, excellent presentation, both fish, meat and pasta. This was the best meal we had in a week in Sicily and we had... read more

Four of us walked in on a Sunday for lunch with no reservation and were treated like special guests even though we were planning to visit the Villa romana a Casale after eating. Recommended by the knowledgeable owner of our accommodations in Licata - Antico Dimora San Girolamo - we were treated to local, well-researched and presented dishes and wonderful... More

We had lunch here recently on our way to see the Roman villa. They were very nice, but the place is pretty formal. We ordered two salads (the cheapest thing on the menu) and (inadvertently) a plate of cheeses. It took almost 45 minutes to get the food, even though there were only 4 other people in the restaurant, and... More

We had been visiting the Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina on a very cold day in early March, and the rain was pelting down all day. It was still an inspiring visit and well worth nearly freezing to death, but it was hard to be wet and cold, and they had no staff at that time of year... More

We had immense trouble finding this restaurant as neither our satnav, or google maps on a phone, were very good at distinguishing between a modern elevated section of road and the original road 50' below.... Make sure you put the street address in yours. It is very annoying to be told that your destination is on your left, when all... More

Al Fogher was my wife's favourite restaurant in Sicily when she led a trip to the island ten years ago, and it is still our favourite when we visited a few days ago. We sat at a quiet table in the garden and made to feel special guests even though a bus load of patrons was inside. The service was... More

We popped in for lunch here prior to going and seeing the mosaics....we loved it. The food was not as innovatively formal as other places but it was interesting, and tasty and had a more rustic authentic local food feel which was what we were looking for. The service was good, professional and friendly with some good laughs. We enjoyed... More

Dinner among friends. On Wednesday. Restaurant was almost empty. In my opinion also because it is a little bit out of way. If you do not know it, it will be so hard to find it! Anyway, hall is very nice and cozy. Staff is polite and competent. Food is delicious. Great cuisine...with interesting Sicilian touch. Not very expensive, considering... More

We had been recommended this restaurant from a Sicilian friend. We had an excellent dinner in a nice atmosphere with perfect service. We can recommend it to others and we would like to get back if we visit Sicily again. We found the food more like an Europe dinner than typically Sicilian. It was very tasty and the wine from... A bit out of the way, exceptional internal setting, a very attentive, polite and up to date head waiter, intimate feel service, you are given a description of what you are eating, a never ending wine list, exquisite cuisine, top chef (owner). Food was simply great! A bit pricey but worth the money spent, every cent.
