My husband and I went there for Lunch to check the place out. He ordered the Cheeseburger and I ordered the Fried Softshell Crab Sandwich. When our lunch came out I was very pleased to see a nice plump softshell crab laying on my bun. It was perfectly breaded not too much like most people do to it. I am... More

My husband, son, and I enjoyed lunch at the Crab Shack on the James River. My son was visiting from Colorado, and wanted seafood. So where else would we go? It was a beautiful day to sit out on the patio. There was a great breeze, the sun wasn't glaring in on us, and the river water was choppy and... More

We'd been here 2 years ago when we visited the area. I think we loved it more that time because it was a new experience. Our meal was a sharing experience. We ordered 1/2 dozen Jimmies (male blue crab) (awesome flavor). Talk about having to work for your meal! Fun the first time, but whew! Could have done with out... More

Came to the Crab Shack with out of town family to celebrate family member birthday. View was great as the sun set over the James river. We all ended up ordering different meals along with a couple of appetizers. All the meals were A+. Best review I can say all out of town family members want to come back the... More

We ate here based on a suggestion given to us and it did not disappoint. My son wanted to eat seafood on or close to the water and we were directed to Crab Shack. We ate "outside" which is patio like with open windows and ceiling fans. You are right by the bridge so we saw several boats. The food... More

Crab Shack has been in this location for many years. Well known by the locals, this restaurant has always delivered the goods. Fresh fish and produce prepared in a light and healthy way. The wait staff are friendly and eager to please. Casual decor and affordable prices makes the Crab Shack a perfect "nice" lunch stop. The icing on the... More

I was surprised that I had never been to this restaurant before, even though I was born and raised in Virginia. I ordered a dozen of crabs and ate them all! The food and atmosphere was perfect and my waitress was very nice and timely. I will definitely come back the next time I come home to visit in the... More

My friends and I received rave reviews about this place. We stopped by and it was moderately full on a Friday evening. We ordered some assorted including a seafood platter. Everything was really good but it was a little over sauced. Still a pretty fun place to visit.

The location of the restaurant is on the James River fishing pier (the longest fishing pier on the east coast) and directly adjacent to the James River Bridge. The views from the patio and dining room are fantastic. We arrived just after sunset and the colors in the sky over the James River were stunning. Fireflies had just come out... More

Views were spectacular. Food was great. A MUST VISIT! I had the shrimp and the she crab soup. Waitress was slow to fill tea...but who cares with the river view sights.
