Birthday dinner last month with wife and daughter, very nice evening. Owner and staff very hospitable and friendly, very accommodating. Some interestingly unusual menu items but all items were outstanding. Gets a little loud at times, fortunately we were at a four top and not in the row of small couple tables. Couldn't afford to eat here frequently, but nice... More

I have eaten here on many occasions and have always made sure I had a reservation as it is very busy for the 6-9 PM timeframe daily. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, I don't know how they move around so much and so well as the entire layout is very intimate. So why is it packed... the food. A... More

I'll start with the simple truth. My meal was absolutely amazing but I honestly thought it would be ruined by the two couples at the bar who were loud and insistent on constant chatter with one another. Perhaps a table 3 spots away, next to door vs next to bar would have been better, but as small as the place... More

I may just have to find more excuses to visit the peninsula now that I've discovered Circa 1918. I went there before a concert at Ferguson Center and was really impressed with the quality of the food and the service, even though they were jumping from table to table, they were very attentive. Not to mention the Tuesday $5 glasses... More

Top restaurant in Newport News, bar none. Fin is close but not quite there and Schlessinger's isn't even in the same league. Brilliant food and cocktails.

The staff are very attentive and have a great comprehension of the menu (including regular entrees, specials of the day, and drinks). They understand special food needs such as accommodating a member of our party on a gluten-free diet. They have regular items such as the lamb burger I would highly recommend, but also have great specials such as seafood... More

The food was great and so was the service. I read that they had vegetarian cuisine but did not see a vegetarian section on the menu. The waiter said, "No problem, what are you in the mood for? We will create something." And they did. And it was amazing! The place is cramped and noisy but the food, service and... More

I travel a lot for work and am always on the look out for small, local restaurants with awesome food where the staff make you feel welcome. I ordered a beef dish that was to die for. My cousin got the crab cake. My friend is vegan and he always asks them to surprise him. It's always amazing! The place... More

We had been to Circa 1918 awhile back and thought we'd try it again. It was our anniversary and we were looking for a nice local place for an extra special dinner. Well we were not disappointed! We were seated immediately and presented with a complimentary glass of champagne to help us celebrate our anniversary - it was very good!... More

My wife and I stopped in to catch a bite before heading to the penninsula community theater. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few drinks and appetizers before the play. The bar tenders were very welcoming and their recommendation for food were spot on. The place is small the the taste of the dishes are big bold and... More
