After wating 45 minutes to get our food, neighbor tables were faster to get served, the owner told us that nobody is perfect and that's our mistake we didn't claim earlier. We never got our food and left after paying our wine. So, I can only write about the level of service (unfortunately 0 doesn't exist)

The setting is percy on the dock, with a pleasant little plaza for outside seating. The food was fine, with a high note for the drinks: both the kids diabolos ( fruit syrup and lemonade, ideal for French summer vacations) and the local ile de Re wines which are both surprisingly good and reasonably priced. fish dishes were good, accompaniments... We made the big mistake of not checking trip advisor before sitting down to lunch at Le Belem. The location is great and the tables were full, the menu was not cheap but we don't mind paying 30€ per person for good food. Sadly the food was terrible. We had mussels the day before in La Rochelle at a normal... More

The location is prime....right on the harbour with a lovely view...temptingly laid tables...one expected quality. However, we were sorely disappointed...the only good thing was a lovely bottle of rose which slightly softened the blow of poor quality and expensive food. I ordered oysters which unbeknown to me supposedly in July and August give off a kind of "grease" which when... More

I visited this restaurant with my wife for lunch. The restaurant is just in front of the port where the nice views are there. Since the location was good, we did not expect the quality of meals too much. However, the mussels with cream and the seabass were very tasty. We could enjoy both of tastes and views in this... More

We stayed in St Martin for only one night and unfortunately chose this restaurant at random from the many along the quayside. I had basic moule fitte and my wife had the house salad 'Belem', both were disgusting. The moule's were tiny and so overcooked as to be mush with only a spoonful of sauce at the bottom of the... Extremely disappointed with out whole dining experience here. After 15 mins wait I had to find a waiter. Tried to bring us water we hadn't ask for and charge for it. Starter took about 30 mins to arrive. Main another 45 after that, fish soup nice but nasty dried up monkfish tail. Wive's meal almost stone cold. Paid bill for... More

Just had a very frustrating Saturday lunch at Le Belem: started with a plate of prawns, which were fine - then things fell apart. One of our party had the cod fillet, which arrived promptly and was exceedingly good. The remaining 3 of us then waited more than half an hour for our mussels, which were distinctly unimpressive when they... More

I enjoyed the choices of "fixed price" menus, and the food was creative and delicious. The waiters were very professional and polite. The service was good - not too fast; not too slow! The restaurant is located very close to the "center" of the port area of the town, with charming views. Unfortunately, I was not able to dine outside... More

St Martin de Re named for the Patron Saint of Tours is the capital of the Ile de Re. It must be one of the most complete and well preserved walled cities on the French Atlantic seaboard, not excluding La Rochelle. It's defences were designed and built almost 400 years ago by the great military engineer Vauban because of the... More
