I can easily see why reviews of this restaurant swing to one extreme or the other -- most are very positive, but a minority are highly critical. Unfortunately, I must join the critical voices. L'Esplanade occupies THE prime location in Domme, one of the Dordogne's most charming hill towns. From the outdoor terrace, it offers a splendid panoramic view of... More

I very rarely feel the need to write a very critical review, this is an exception. My family wanted to check out the restaurants in Domme, and decided on early evening drinks at L'Esplanade whilst browsing the menu for another evening. We ordered a couple of cocktails and a beer, sitting outside on the terrace. It didn't appear busy, only... More

This wonderful restaurant stretched to our needs and also provided exquisite food that we loved and will never forget. The view is mind- blowing. The staff ensured that we had a lovely meal which included looking after my father who is a celiac and needed to eat gluten free food. Also my sister needed to eat simple food and they... More

We visit this part of the Dordogne a couple of times a year and usually eat out at one of the many great and cheap local restaurants. We've admired L'Esplanade from afar. However, this year some dear friends gave us a meal there as a gift. It really was an incredible experience from the impeccable service to the fabulous food.... More

This restaurant capitalizes on it's truly spectacular view. But the service was terrible. We had to get up and refill our own water glasses. And after waiting for nearly an hour for the dessert we had ordered, we were told that the souflee had "fallen", and that another one was being made and would arrive in ten minutes. After another... An excellent menu of Michelin star level food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and could have easily stayed longer. Actually, we tried to go back a few nights later but there was no-one about...so we didn't. And the view has to be one of the best restaurant views anywhere. If you don't sit outside on the terrace, you'll miss out... More

Dinner here recently after reading the positive TA reviews. And looking at its location, which is just beautiful. We were seated outside on the verandah, and after choosing our menus were told that ws only for lunch (ahh, the difficulties of only having a petit peu of French!) so - 2 of us had the 39 euro set menu, and... Perched on a cliff, the restaurant is the dining room and terrace of the hotel. We went for the view and food exceeded our expectations. Note- Lunch deals are not offered on the weekends. We had two of the 29€ three set course menus and two of the 38€ lunches providing choices within the 3 courses. Amuse Bouche and small... More

Looking over the Dordogne river from the height of Donne and the terrace of this restaurant would be worth it even without the pleasure of dining. But the food and service are both first class. We had the E29 three course menu for lunch. Duck accra, though not quite warmed through, were delicious. Then came beautifully cooked trout, and for... More

We had the prix fixe lunch at €29, no choice but all delicious. Started with canapés and an Amuse Bouche (not listed on menu) followed by starter of veal terrine, steak and beautifully presented vegetables, and finally a cherry tart and ice cream. Incredibly good value lunch with a terrific view over the Dordogne valley, and excellent service too.
