We've been going to Chincoteauge almost every year for some time and we always stop at Ray's Shanty on the main road in to Chincoteague. I love their creamed seafood soup with shrimp, crab and scallops in it - the best! Their steamed shrimp is my favorite. You can get it by the 1/2 lb. or lb. or you can... More

Sometimes there is a wait but it is well worth it. Have never been disappointed here and we've been coming for years. Love the hushpuppies, flounder and of course the shrimp!

Best BIG heads-on shrimp you'll find anywhere. Keeping the heads on tastes sweeter and juicier than the usual way. Sprinkle with Old Bay and you have perfection! Get all-you-can-eat until it hurts! Ray buys only the best quality and a ton of it. He doesn't try to stuff you full of other things before serving you seafood. However, if you... More

Decided to try Ray's after driving past it a few times. It was different than the other restaurants around Chincoteague. The service was great, our waitress was very accommodating and even answered the questions and general ramblings from our three children. The food was good, nothing fantastic, but good. I would probably come back to try it again.

My family was looking something different for dinner and found a very good alternative if you are not looking to spend a lot of money. The flounder and tuna sandwiches were very good and filling. The fish was prepared well and the hush puppies were good too. For those who don't like fish you could choose a hamburger. The hamburger... More

This place is awesome! We visited chincoteague for the pony swim and all of the locals we asked sent us to Rays! The service was great! Food came out quickly and they were packed on a Friday night. Salads were fresh. Shrimp were huge. Crab cakes had very little filler. No greasy food here! Hush puppies are to die for!... More

I never make a trip to Chincoteague without going to Ray's! The shanty special is always a grand slam!

Ray has some of the freshest seafood around! We love going into the Seafood Market that is attached to the restaurant to get heads on shrimp, beautiful tuna steaks and lobsters. All local and all fresh. So good!

We ordered their famous flounder sandwich. What a disappointment. The fried flounder sandwich smelled fishy, tasted bad, and was tough to the chew. It definitely was not fresh! Years ago, when Ray's Shanty first opened, they had some good food, but over the passed few years it has gotten worse. This will be our last visit!

I have read a few reviews on this place and decided to try it during a quick day trip to Chincoteague Island. Although it's physically not on Island, IMO it should be ranked with Chincoteague restaurants. This is a fantastic restaurant!!!! Even though it was busy due to the annual Swimming of the Ponies Week. We were still seated within... More
