A Definite Must, HEADS ON SHRIMP ALL THE WAY

First night we are in the area we ran into Ray's Shanty. The place is very homey feeling with old items on the walls related to the sea. We had no idea what to expect but were seated in a booth. Trying to figure out what to order a gentleman starts talking to us. It turns out to be Ray... read more

We had dinner with some friends. First time having shrimp with their heads still on. Once we tasted them...the squeamishness went away. very delicious. And the heads make wonderful finger puppets! Who knew? The waitstaff was excellent. Prices were awesome, as well as the atmosphere. We will dine here again!

Had the fried oyster sandwich. It was OK as was the coleslaw. Onion rings were greasy, no flavor; hush puppies were over cooked, dried out.

What a terrific place! This is a regular spot for my family and friends. We went there on 3/14/15 (opening weekend for the season) and the food was WONDERFUL! We shared the shrimp trawler (2 lbs of steamed shrimp - on the large size) and the best french fries, coleslaw and hush puppies! Of course we couldn't resist the pitcher... More

Nothing fancy here, just down the road from Chincoteague! All the steamed shrimp you can eat one night a week in season. Huge fried flounder, big as the plate, with hush puppies and homemade slaw. We stop here every year on our way to the Outer Banks and it is a one of a kind "shanty". Very casual, beachy, great... More

Rays is the old school, real deal, true Eastern Shore. If you want true local food this is the place. No gluten free vegan menu here. Seafood broiled, battered, fried, steamed…love it. The place is packed at lunch so get there early if you don’t want to wait. Try the flounder sandwich, needs 2 buns. Chowder, crabs, flounder, oysters or... More

The majority of items offered at Rays are fried. We tried the shrimp which were OK, a little bland in taste due to sparse seasoning. The fried flounder was a small portion compared to other restaurants in the area, and was very greasy. Almost as if fryer wasn't up to temperature. Slaw was pretty much tasteless. Service was slow with... More

Even thought this was the last weekend for the season, we had perfectly steamed shrimp and the best steamed clams. The service was timely and the food was hot. We expected things to be a little off their normal game, but Ray's didn't. As I stated it was near perfect. We will miss them not being open again until March... More

I'll qualify this review by saying we have been going to Ray's since the doors opened at the "original" Ray's many years ago. During this past year we have seen a distinct change at Ray's in regards to the food. The past few times I have ordered the fried flounder it was absolutely soaked with oil, whether they did not...
