Nothing fancy here, just down the road from Chincoteague! All the steamed shrimp you can eat one night a week in season. Huge fried flounder, big as the plate, with hush puppies and homemade slaw. We stop here every year on our way to the Outer Banks and it is a one of a kind "shanty". Very casual, beachy, great... More

Rays is the old school, real deal, true Eastern Shore. If you want true local food this is the place. No gluten free vegan menu here. Seafood broiled, battered, fried, steamed…love it. The place is packed at lunch so get there early if you don’t want to wait. Try the flounder sandwich, needs 2 buns. Chowder, crabs, flounder, oysters or... More

The majority of items offered at Rays are fried. We tried the shrimp which were OK, a little bland in taste due to sparse seasoning. The fried flounder was a small portion compared to other restaurants in the area, and was very greasy. Almost as if fryer wasn't up to temperature. Slaw was pretty much tasteless. Service was slow with... More

Even thought this was the last weekend for the season, we had perfectly steamed shrimp and the best steamed clams. The service was timely and the food was hot. We expected things to be a little off their normal game, but Ray's didn't. As I stated it was near perfect. We will miss them not being open again until March... More

I'll qualify this review by saying we have been going to Ray's since the doors opened at the "original" Ray's many years ago. During this past year we have seen a distinct change at Ray's in regards to the food. The past few times I have ordered the fried flounder it was absolutely soaked with oil, whether they did not... During our recent visit to Chincoteague, we decided to visit some restaurants we haven't in awhile. Ray's was just as good as we remembered. Instead of the shrimp, we had the crab cakes. We enjoyed two very nice, all crab, crab cakes along with the delicious Hush Puppies, cole slaw, and fries. This seemed like the in between season--after Columbus... More

Stopped as two couples, was recommended by other couple. Sunday for lunch,Mrs got the $5 burger, good price, but small and average. I asked for the grilled tuna sandwich,rare.... Came as very well done, only ate half. I didn't complain as we were guests. Creamed seafood soup WAS tasty and reasonable. Hush Puppies(5) were killer.

Don't miss Ray' s Shanty when you're in the Chincoteague area. Amazing local seafood, especially the large flounder, and the best steamed and fried fish anywhere. This is one of our favorite restaurants and we highly recommend it.

Back in 1998 my wife and I fell in love with the eastern shore of Virginia and we have been visiting the area ever since. Our home away from home has always been The Refuge Inn on the island and we were content just to stay put when we got there. About three years ago we were chatting with another... More

this is where locals go for seafood. always hot, always fresh. the mix and match seafood platters are great. trouble is, I always get the shrimp and scallops. never disappointed. prices are what you would expect for fresh seafood. only trouble is you usually have to wait.
