Relaxing way to see SML

We recently took a lunchtime cruise on the VA Dare. However, we did not eat lunch but bought the sightseeing tickets only--which worked out better, I think. By not eating, we got to be on the top deck of the boat and therefore able to see everything and move around. (Since the boat was full that... read more

My husband and I went on the Virginia Dare cruise on a Saturday. It was a private charter for a fund raising event, so I don't know if our experience was the norm or not. By the time we got onto the boat, the upper deck was over crowded and they wouldn't let anyone else go upstairs. So we ended... More

This is not a real paddleboat, for any kids that may love the thrill of watching a real paddleboat in action- though still fun. The staff was very kind (well, one was kinda rude but there is always one in the bunch). We took the tour only and did not eat lunch with them. We felt for 45 dollars a... More

I recently accompanied a group from our County and our first stop on this overnight trip was the Virginia Dare lunch cruise. The food was very good as was the service. We had the most beautiful day which made the sightseeing portion of the cruise even better. Everyone really enjoyed this part! Thanks to everyone at the Virginia Dare!

We thought this would be a wonderful way to see the lake and learn about the local area. The narration was okay but rather bland. They could use an injection of humor. We opted for the lunch cruise. The food reminded me exactly the kind you would find at the church supper. Tasty, but not worth $45 per person. The... More

We are very sorry that you were disappointed. We strive to make all of our Customers happy. As for the Narration, we leave it up to the Captains to narrate in their own way. The $45.00 Cruise includes: 2-Hour Cruise, Meal (Appetizer-Dessert) Coffee/Tea, Tax/Service Charge. That's $20.00 for the Cruise, Meal would be $18.30, Tax is $3.20 and Service Charge... More

I went once and I would never go back again. This was definetly not worth the money that they charged to have a dinner cruise. The food was not that good and they crowd you into a table with a bunch of other people that you don't know and don't really care to know either. Alot of the people had... More

The Virginia Dare is twinned with the Portside Bar & Grill. These are two of our very favorite places at the lake. The Dare provides a wonderful, reasonably priced scenic tour of the lake. The meal portion is only mediocre, though, and could be skipped in favor of drinks from the bar on the upper deck. The Portside Tiki Bar... More

The lunch cruise had a full boat but the staff was very efficient in coordinating the boarding. Lunch guests are seated inside in the air conditioned lower deck while sightseers are seated on the open but covered upper deck. Lunch service was also efficient. The food was tasty but average and strict portion control. The boat needs an improved sound... More

Frankly, I was disappointed. We have been vacationing at SML for over 10 years and had wanted to take a dinner cruise, but it was always too early in the spring. The food was definitely average, small portions, and just barely warm. The salad appeared to be bagged, the veggies were completely mushy and we aren't sure what the dessert... More

We went with 10 other people for an evening meal/cruise. The staff was very attentive and the food was good...nothing great, but average. Although a buffet, you had to go up by table, and if you were last, you could have a bit of a wait. Very relaxing, but very disappointed that the evening cruise, without a full moon, left... More
