Pleasant trip

Smith Mountain Lake is big and the best way to see it (if you don't own your own boat) is on Virginia Dare. A two-hour trip takes you from one end down to the dam at the other end and back. This was the perfect outing on a crisp fall day. It was my first time visiting Smith Mountain Lake ant the Virginia Dare was an excellent way to view the place from the water. You have the option of just sight-seeing or lunch. We had a hefty breakfast at a B&B just down the street so we didn't choose the... More

Friends of mine were in town and I wanted them to see the lake from the water and not just driving around. We purchased tickets for the two hour tour but opted not to take the lunch option. It was 20 some dollars for a 2 hour guided sight seeing tour. They pointed out the landmarks, told the history of... More

Enjoyed witnessing a lovely, mid- day romantic wedding, fun reception with DJ and great service. Guests were served attractive heavy finger food and champagne for the toast and a cash bar for mixed and soft drinks. Lovely tour of the wide part of the lake. Delightful experience.

I have only been on this boat once. I thought it was overpriced since it was $50 a person. We sat on the bottom level where we was fed a roast beef dinner with vegetables. I thought all of the food was bland and the roast beef was extremely dry. The portions that we got was very minute portions. A... More

We recently took a lunchtime cruise on the VA Dare. However, we did not eat lunch but bought the sightseeing tickets only--which worked out better, I think. By not eating, we got to be on the top deck of the boat and therefore able to see everything and move around. (Since the boat was full that day, folks from the... More

My husband and I went on the Virginia Dare cruise on a Saturday. It was a private charter for a fund raising event, so I don't know if our experience was the norm or not. By the time we got onto the boat, the upper deck was over crowded and they wouldn't let anyone else go upstairs. So we ended... More

This is not a real paddleboat, for any kids that may love the thrill of watching a real paddleboat in action- though still fun. The staff was very kind (well, one was kinda rude but there is always one in the bunch). We took the tour only and did not eat lunch with them. We felt for 45 dollars a... More

I recently accompanied a group from our County and our first stop on this overnight trip was the Virginia Dare lunch cruise. The food was very good as was the service. We had the most beautiful day which made the sightseeing portion of the cruise even better. Everyone really enjoyed this part! Thanks to everyone at the Virginia Dare!

We thought this would be a wonderful way to see the lake and learn about the local area. The narration was okay but rather bland. They could use an injection of humor. We opted for the lunch cruise. The food reminded me exactly the kind you would find at the church supper. Tasty, but not worth $45 per person. The... More

We are very sorry that you were disappointed. We strive to make all of our Customers happy. As for the Narration, we leave it up to the Captains to narrate in their own way. The $45.00 Cruise includes: 2-Hour Cruise, Meal (Appetizer-Dessert) Coffee/Tea, Tax/Service Charge. That's $20.00 for the Cruise, Meal would be $18.30, Tax is $3.20 and Service Charge... More
