Had not been to the Southern Inn since my husband was at VMI in the late seventies. Big changes! The decor is lovely and the menu has a wide selection of both gourmet and homey offerings. Absolutely a favorite, you don't want to miss.

We have eaten at Southern Inn twice; the first time was excellent (meat loaf and veal) and led to our return visit. We were not as pleased the second time (monk fish) and feel if we are going to pay over $20 for a plate, that the food should be very good, and the portions ample, to justify the price.

A delightful meal. Nicely presented, very flavorful and with excellent service by Katie, our very congenial waitress.

We really enjoy the Southern Inn - it's almost like family ! And so is the menu, meatloaf being one of our favorites ! There are many selections - for both lunch and dinner - something for everyone. It's just all around friendly and the food is very good. Will definitely return !

We ate at this place and had the pork. It was not the best nor the worst. It was recommended to us by the hotel; it is southern cooking which did not have much seasoning. Maybe if we had another dish on the menu it would have been better. High Price...Might try again.

Food was very good. They have 8 beers on tap - had a DB VIenna Lager, brewed a few miles away. Both my wife and I began with a half Caesar Salad - plentiful and tasty. My wife had calves liver which she never has at home and was very pleased. I had a seared tuna, which I also enjoyed.... More

We were looking for a place with local character. The name appealed and we all had the southern fried chicken and it was great. The service was friendly and helpful.

The freshest ingredients and great food! Server was so professional. A great dining experience. The restaurant has been in this location since 1932, we were told. The chef was clearly on top of his game. We really enjoyed our meals and our evening at the Southern Inn Restaurant.
