The menu was done very well, the food was very good, and the staff were all very nice. We only had brunch here but will most certainly return for dinner.

We visited the Southern on 19 January, our niece's first birthday. The restaurant is very nice inside, so don;'t be fooled by the old fashion signage. It has a great atmosphere and is well-maintained. The window into the food prep area was something I have rarely seen, and I liked it. You got to see how the staff acted as... More

My son and I were visiting Lexington, and were attracted to the Southern Inn by its distinctive retro sign in the front. Once inside, we were delighted by the modern, attractive space and attentive service. The spinach and artichoke dip was plentiful and hot, and our entrees were delicious. I enjoyed the Virginia Gold Orchard Asian Pear Salad, and my... More

They have a new salad on the menu, which I love....and they always have great home cooked meals, not frozen! The staff are friendly and quick to get you what you want, every time! Thumbs up on the owner for running such a quality restaurant and having the best waitstaff!

I grew up in Lexington and the Southern Inn was our "treat" restaurant when I was young. Well, I've grown up and so has the Southern Inn. I hadn't been in years and it's much better. I had the pork with mac and cheese. It was good, but the best part of the meal was the dessert. I had a... More

We went foe brunch in late December. The menu was very traditional and good in my opinion. My husband thought the portions were a bit small, but I thought they were perfect. Our table was sort of a booth / table. Our long-legged men struggled and I would request another table on the next visit. The kale, sweet potato salad... More

Finally was able to eat here and it was worth the wait! From the server to the food, they define excellence! I am a lover of good food (round-bodied!) and I love liver and onions. This one was perfectly cooked! I was almost drooling at the table but I didn't want to risk missing out on the moistness of the... More

Second trip to Lexington in six months. Many restaurants closed due to the winter season. Large marquee with Southern Inn caught our attention. Restaurant is not large but comfortable. My wife tried their shrimp and grits special which was perhaps the best S&G dish we have tried. I chose their battered fried catfish. Again, one of the best catfish meals... More

We stopped in the pleasant town of Lexington which is right off Rt 81. The town is a charming town with many of places to shop and inns as a result of the presence of VMI (Virginia Military Institute). The Southern Inn is on the main street and has an inviting window front. As you walk into the restaurant you... More

Took my son and daughter-in-law here. Great service by Stefan who noticed issue in kitchen and took care of it. Food was great. Spinach artichoke dip started everything off great. A little more cheese than I've had before but very good. My main was duck and it was med-rare inside and crispy outside. Really liked the cornbread that went with... More
