We stopped in the pleasant town of Lexington which is right off Rt 81. The town is a charming town with many of places to shop and inns as a result of the presence of VMI (Virginia Military Institute). The Southern Inn is on the main street and has an inviting window front. As you walk into the restaurant you... More

Took my son and daughter-in-law here. Great service by Stefan who noticed issue in kitchen and took care of it. Food was great. Spinach artichoke dip started everything off great. A little more cheese than I've had before but very good. My main was duck and it was med-rare inside and crispy outside. Really liked the cornbread that went with... More

This place was recommended by the staff at Devil's Backbone Brewing. It is in downtown Lexington and was a real treat. Food was well prepared, beer was great and the service was commendable. Everything about our visit was very enjoyable.

This restaurant is in a very old building that I just loved, but the restaurant itself served very modern choices. The food was good, but the wine was even better.

We were in town for the weekend to visit W&L University, right down the street. We stayed at the Robert E Lee Hotel which was right across the street from the Southern Inn. Our first night we ate in the restaurant portion of the place, in a booth. We all enjoyed everything. I do think the highlight was the fried... More

I recently was invited to dinner with friends after we attended the Downtown Walking Real Estate Tour to benefit the Rockbridge Food Bank. My friends took me to the Southern Inn. As I am a life-long vegetarian...I always wonder what 'plant-based protein' will be available for the entrée. To my surprise I spotted a Pan Seared Tofu with an election... More

I've been eating there as long as I can remember when visiting my family. Food is good, prices a little high but expected. Service is hit or miss, or last trip for drinks and a small bite at the bar at 4pm on a Saturday they seemed flustered that they had business and had an inexperienced bartender making their "signature"... My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant as we traveled through Lexington VA, as it had great ratings and reviews on Open Table. Our expectations were still high when we arrived as it had the "look" of a good restaurant. Alas, we were disappointed--it was just okay. The hostess seated us at a small table with my... More

They call it "contemporary American". I call it "home style". Whatever it's called, it's pretty good food. I dine here frequently, - both for lunch and dinner (and an occasional drink at the bar) and I am very rarely disappointed. Since I prefer salads or non-pasta entrees, the menu choices are limited but suffice for me. Recently, the Inn has... More

A popular spot with university students, tourists, and locals. Relaxed atmosphere in which George Huger's cooking sparkles. Good fried chicken, meatloaf, salads, fish, rubens, and burgers. Exellent wine list with some good local wine by the glass and bottle. Super beer menu. Great spot for lunch, snacks, dinner, and sunday brunch. And easy on the pocketbook for the quality of... More
