Cozy restaurant local regional emphasis

Small low key venue in historic little building that was once a hotel billiard parlor. Old wood interior providing interest. Fine dining on local regional based menu.

While staying at a nearby B&B, other guests recommended The Red Hen so we decided to try it out. I absolutely loved the look of the building exterior and interior as it elevated my expectations of a wonderful experience. From any seat a diner can watch the chefs go about their business of preparing your meal. The waitstaff were warm... More

The Red Hen was recommended by a friend whose daughter attends a local college. There was a limited menu with ingredients that seemed to be shared by every dish. We ordered salads, short ribs and the duck breast. The salads were ok but nothing special. The short ribs was the better dish (although I prefer duck) and the duck was... More

Probably the best meal on our trip to DC and Virginia from the UK. Nice atmosphere, excellent and very friendly waiting staff. Great wine list including some great local wine. I had the potato and garlic scrape soup - I don't normally have soup in a restaurant but it was perfect. Husband had short ribs, daughter duck and I had... More

My wife and I ate here for our first anniversary dinner during our trip to Lexington. The place is small so make sure you make reservations in advance. The food is all local and the meal was excellent, but the portions were a little small for us. My only real complaint is their possible lack of sweet tea. I was... More

Another great dinner at Red Hen! Not a large menu, but something for everyone and usually inspires you to try something new and different. We are never disappointed.

this restaurants has a season menu, but it seems everything on the menu used the same ingredients, so if there was an ingredient you wanted to avoid, it was very difficult to find an entree that did not include it. The hype is better than the restaurant deserves

Working in the area and trying different places and tried this place. Food was very good and was all locally produced. I found the quality was very good, quantity was small, prices were a little high. I had scallops and a risotto which was very good. but there were only four scallops in a bowl with the risotto and some... More

The restaurant was a recommendation by our local host at a B&B. Even for a Tuesday, I made reservations well in advance and they were full. It is a very small, personal restaurant with 12 to 13 tables. The hostess/ waitress was lovely, attentive & knowlegible. The first course we chose was the cheese plate.. Small but very nice...we did... More

Tucked in a street adjacent to Main St. was this intimate restaurant, aptly named "The Red Hen." As my husband and I entered, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The appetizers were tempting, but we skipped straight to the main entrees and chose the duck breast and sea scallops. Our server was kind and patient, having good... More
