My wife is a Pescatarian. They printed a special menu for her to give her options and made a special desert. Food was excellent as was the service, will be back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Quaint building in a quaint town. The menu in this charming restaurant is ideal. Perfect farm to table items. The melon gazpacho was delicious. I think it has a ball of sour cream ice cream in it. Everything was wonderful. Attentive friendly staff.

We spent way too much and I left hungry. I ordered a salad, which was okay, but It was meant for a 5 year old. It came priced at nearly 10 dollars, they used maybe 80 cents worth of ingredients. I ordered the duck it was way too raw, there was very tough pieces that were awful to chew. I... More

We visited The Red Hen for the second time this year on Tuesday evening and once again were delighted by the beautiful, delicious meal served. Calling ahead I requested that the chefs prepare a vegan meal for the two of us and it was amazing. We were fortunate to be able to sit at the small bar overlooking the kitchen... More

We read the reviews & were hoping to enjoy a good meal, in sleepy downtown Lexington, VA...well, we were blown away!!! Absolutely one of the best meals we've had anywhere, including in the finest restaurants in DC. The service was superb & the meal was fresh & abundant. Little touches like homemade focaccia bread, generous wine pouring & gorgeous key... More

My wife and I had dinner at The Red Hen during a brief visit to Lexington. Next time we'll stay longer, so that we can dine here several times! Both the restaurant and the menu are small. But in this case smaller---not bigger---is better. There are probably about 30 seats in the dining room, which has an open kitchen at... More

The Red Hen is easily on par or exceeds any upscale restaurant I've ever eaten at. Their locally sourced high quality ingredients paired with expert preparation and presentation made for a truly memorable meal. We dined early with our three year old son and four month old daughter and the service was extremely accommodating and gracious. They made a strawberry... More

We arrived here for dinner in the middle of a rainstorm. We intended to eat on the deck because we were traveling with our Scottish Terrier. No problem, said the three chefs, who cooked us up a fantastic meal to go while the dog waited in the car. We had the risotto with veggies and a NY strip steak. Then... More

My friend and I had a lovely dinner here. It is a small, intimate and very cozy restaurant. We shared the pate and cheese board, all local food, as appetizers and had the special snapper which was very good. The chocolate dessert was fantastic!

The interior and feel of the location is excellent. While tight and short on the seating it adds a special feeling when you get a table. Seats at the back allow you to watch the chefs cook, and lets you understand how the food is coming to you. Food was not bad and for the area quite well, however all... More
