The restaurant was a recommendation by our local host at a B&B. Even for a Tuesday, I made reservations well in advance and they were full. It is a very small, personal restaurant with 12 to 13 tables. The hostess/ waitress was lovely, attentive & knowlegible. The first course we chose was the cheese plate.. Small but very nice...we did... More

Tucked in a street adjacent to Main St. was this intimate restaurant, aptly named "The Red Hen." As my husband and I entered, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The appetizers were tempting, but we skipped straight to the main entrees and chose the duck breast and sea scallops. Our server was kind and patient, having good... More

After reading the reviews, I had high hopes for a great meal at an upscale restaurant. My wife and I got quite a bit less than we had anticipated. Some of the food was good to very good and the service was more than adequate but the "local" veggies were sad the 3 cheese appetizer was very tasty but woefully... More

A very good, albeit not perfect, dining experience, especially given your options in Lexington. We were in town for a few days and this restaurant came highly recommended by both locals and visitors. The setup is original and quaint, i won't spoil all the surprises for you, but make sure you make reservations in advance especially if visiting on the... More

Delicious. Expensive but worth it for a special evening out. Our server was delightful and very attentive.

Ate there tonight with my wife while visiting Lexington. Small place 29 seats. Very pleasant interior of an old bar converted. Nice service, good drinks list. Small menu but enough to suit most. Wife had fish I had duck. Well presented and well cooked but both felt dishes lacked flavour and were under seasoned. Chocolate brownie dessert was very good.... More

I absolutely love the Red Hen - we traveled from DC just to enjoy the delicious food made with care. Everything is perfection here! We wanted everything, so the waitress suggested the tasting menu and that was great for us. The waitress gave us great recommendations, attention, and was super friendly. I cannot wait until we get back to Lexington... More

Only 29 seats. Quaint and cool. The Chef and his wife have a lot to be proud of. Farm to Table food, impeccably plated and beautifully presented. It felt like my own private getaway place. Outstanding staff who are vailable but not intrusive. I will return often when in downtown Lexington.

This was my third trip to the Red Hen and it remains a must when visiting Lexington. This quaint, SMALL restaurant offers great farm to table fare in an intimate setting. My wife and I opted for the tasting menu which featured a cheese plate appetizer and three entrées, grouper, duck breast and sirloin. All were very good but I... More
