Recently my wife and I dined at The Red Hen in Lexington, Va. I had a Lamb special and my wife had scallops. Both were delicious. The waiter was knowledgeable and courteous. My only complaint had to do with our reservation. We were told they were totally booked for the night and we had to wait until late for our... More

This is an excellent place to dine. The food was more than expected. Had the ravioli and scallops! I had dreams about the food. Well definitely make this a regular dining spot.

During my visit at the red hen, I enjoyed the Chef's tasting menu and was absolutely delighted by the food and the excitement of the entire staff. Everyone was very charming, attentive, and friendly. And the food was to die for, my favorite being the steak and my beautifully plated dessert. I've never had a dining experience quite like this... More

My husband and I enjoyed a great meal at the Red Hen while vacationing in Lexington the week of October 20th. We shared the trout appetizer. The trout was served over an innovative potato salad; delicious! Then I enjoyed a pork entrée while my husband enjoyed a duck entrée. If you are a foodie you will enjoy this restaurant. The... More

Yes, Red Hen is pricy. What our party of four got was an extraordinary 'farm to table' experience featuring unusual cuisine and fun food experiments that are other-worldly in taste combinations. We enjoyed the appetizers that night (melon soup and pate), then went on to main courses of fish, beef, or pork that were quite delicious. The chocolate 'mousse' had... More

We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant on one of our visits to W&L, but it was such a disappointment. We knew it was going to be expensive, but given there were no prices on the menu, we were absolutely shocked when the bill came. For the three-course prix fixe menu (no beverages), it was $55 each, and... More

Tiny but warm and charming. Price fixe menu is limiting but everyone loved it. Appetizers were all great, main course (choose between fish, fowl or beef) were each good but the Lemon custard dessert had us licking the sides of the bowl. Get reservations early

We were told by the owner's of The Red Hen to order the Chef's Tasting dinner if they were serving it. We asked and they said of course they could do this. The server asked if there was anything that we knew we didn't want and was there anything on the menu that attracted us. We gave feedback and were... More

We went on a Thursday night and it wasn't very busy. Food was very good as was the presentation, only critique would be that the portions were small. The thing that really sold me on this place was that they made me hot chocolate with my dessert from a local place called Cocoa Mills. Service was excellent as was the... More

The Red Hen is a charming restaurant featuring locally sourced food. The meal was excellent from starters through dessert; service was perfect, the staff attentive and friendly. A memorable meal, well worth the price. It's a new favorite and we will return.
