Less than average food in a cool vibe if it's a nice night for beer lovers

We went to MacDowells 2 nights ago - storms were looming - so we couldn't sit outside - the staff wasn't great - took a while to get our order. Got some stuffed jalapeno's - they were like frozen and they accidentally served them w/tartar sauce - they should have noticed this but didn't. My... read more

We stumbled upon Macdowells Brew Kitchen while on a weekend trip to VA. Wine country from New Jersey. The reviews don't do this place justice. We loved the atmosphere, the beer and the food. Renee was a wealth of information and lead us in all of the right directions for breweries and wineries. We will be back!

Nothing they brewed on tap the night we visited. Beer menu could have had more detail, or even mentioned the APV of each beer. Food was mediocre. Fish tacos were nothing to talk about. Pretzel was fried and pulled chicken was a hacked up chicken breast w BBQ sauce on it. Maybe it's better in the summer. We won't be... More

I live within walking distance, which makes for some appeal. They always have a good beer selection, plenty of dark beers which I like (sharing a building with Doner Bistro helps). Personally, I haven't had their food in a while, this is more a place to go after dinner with a few friends or solo for a few beers. Service... More

Their website stating that they brew their own beer brought us here but upon arrival the bartender stated they didn't have any of their own ready to drink - she stated it would be a few more weeks. Therefore, we set about sampling the wide variety of guests taps. The bartender allowed us to sample several beers before we settled... More

Outside is all sand. There is 2 boats outside. 1 is a bar, other a private table. A couple of fire pit casual seating. Adding lights. It's an American Caribbean. I can see how nice it would be at night. Good list of beers with some haughty. Food was tasty. I had a sweet and spicy chicken wrap. I enjoyed... More

Beer wasn't bad but overpriced. Food, oh my, not even sure where to begin. Greasy, and often times cold. Have tried this place several times (live within walking distance) and am done with it after the last outing. With Fireworks, Tuskies, Wine Kitchen, Doner and LBC all within walking distance I'll take my dollars elsewhere and frankly enjoy my evening,... More

Didn't have any foo, but had quite a few beers at the beach boat bar ( and some ciders) the staff was fast, friendly and generous and you can't really beat the beach atmosphere at night it's like a tiki party.

Really fun place to hangout on the "beach" outside especially with our 3 year old. We met a few friends for dinner & drinks. The sand & available trucks, shovels, etc kept our child occupied for several hours. There were other kids to play with so it was fun for her while we were able to sit and visit with... More

Check out the recent one-star Yelp reviews. This place has gone to the pits. Last time I went, my order never came, even though I had already paid (mistake on my part). The staff completely ignored me, after taking my order initially. I had things to do, so I just left - vowing to never return. Lesson-learned. Never, ever, ever... More
