Lovely old pub, but given a modern work-over

It had been 5 years since we last visited here and boy has it changed. It is now an up-market dining pub with carpeted floors and fancy furniture. It has replaced its traditional pub feel with something more modern and, somehow, less relaxed. Despite this the staff worked hard to make us feel... read more

Met some friends here for lunch and had a good meal (sandwiches etc), which were good and tasty - but a little pricey. The pub has changed a lot over the years I have been going, but is nicely decorated with good staff and service.

Went for dinner last night to The Royal Oak Pub in North Gorley, Michelle & The Team have transformed the atmosphere and eating experience from average to fantastic. Michelle and her staff always go above and beyond providing a outstanding dining experience. Michelle is the driving force behind the success of the Royal Oak.

A blazing log fire and comfortable arm chairs round the fire what more could one ask on a cold February lunch time. The food was very good too not your normal pub grub. We had the smoked haddock omellette which was a starter but we added the side dish of chips which were superb - proper hand made chips. My... More

We stayed very close to here and so we went here 2 nights. Very welcoming friendly staff. Nice yummy pub food - very limited veggy choice. Brilliant with dogs our dog loved it there. Would go back again.

I liked the food a lot here, good family fun. I went after an archery course and a day in the woods and this was a good spot for a family meal. Would recommend to others

We were recommended by some friends to try this pub and we weren't disappointed! It was fairly busy and I think they had some staff shortages in the kitchen. But we were kept informed and when lunch came it was excellent. It has a lovely atmosphere, it's very clean and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely go back.

We visited on Sunday - only roasts available fur lunch. Great! Only one dish so it should be exceptional. Only it wasn't. It was OK. Lovely location, nice staff but the food was only reasonably good in our opinion. Nothing to complain about and I'd probably come again. We were just expecting more.

Went to The Royal Oak and was very disappointed with the serving staff's attitude. Was made to feel very uncomfortable for having small children. They didn't even have any high chairs so I think that should have been the biggest hint! Food wasn't the cheapest and small portions. Being a local to the New Forest I wouldn't visit again as... Having been recommended to the Royal Oak North Gorley, we were very disappointed with the attitude of the Bar man/Manager. We were a party of six and although the there were two tables for four persons unoccupied they were not prepared to push them together, excuse being it could be difficult for the staff to move around. I looked very... More
