Just happened upon this pub while driving through the forest on the back roads. It looked inviting with the newly thatched roof so stopped for a quick drink. It looks newly decorated inside and a newly laid garden at the back. Although we only had beer and coffee we will be going back for a meal as it feels a... More

My husband and I with another couple recently visited this pub in gorgeous setting in a village, with duck pond and New Forest ponies grazing. A warm welcome greeted us. Food was lovely and the service great. A HUGE IMPROVEMENT FROM THAT EXPERIENCED WITH LAST MANAGER. We had a very good evening, thank you. We shall definitely return.

I went here with a few work colleagues for an evening meal, and it was great from start to finish. The location is off the beaten track but is very quaint, the look of the pub is as olde England as you get. The welcome from the staff was very friendly and accommodating, and this went the same for changes... More

We were taken to have an evening meal by our friend ,as we were visiting from Sutton in Surrey. Beautiful location, attractive pub. We were all looking forward to a sunday roast in what we had understood was supposed to be a good local restaurant and we heard they made a rare sirlion roast. Unfortunately this restaurant failed on all counts. Poor food, terrible service and a dreadful attitude. We booked in advance to be sure to secure our... More

We stayed at the local concentration campsite Sandy Balls and hired bikes and went off exploring. Happened across the Royal Oak and ended up back there a further couple of times. We ate all three times, twice for lunch and once for dinner and the food is fantastic - particularly the fish finger sandwich!! That would be worth driving from... More

We had a superb evening meal. Portion sizes were good, food was of an outstanding quality, hospitality was excellent. I was concerned about it being a Gastropub and the portion sizes being small, but definitely not. I cannot fault the experience in any way. I would thoroughly recommend The Royal Oak. We have been back since and the experience was... More

We have used the Royal Oak for a number of years, especially when we want somewhere to eat with our grandchildren, not any more, the new owners have done away with the children's play area and high chairs, stating "a pub sin' a place for kids". That's OK there's plenty of other places that welcome kids and to be honest... More

New landlady and team have made great improvements to the food and service. Although very busy the service was good and the duck was excellent.
