What's a place like this doing in Flint Hill?

Flint Hill is a small, non-descript, unassuming Virginia town without any stop signs or stoplights or shopping malls or even a McDonald's on Route 522 on the road from Front Royal to Washington, Virginia. We've stopped there three times in all the years we have visited the area--for gas, to visit... read more

We ate here on our first night of vacation in the area. As we arrived, the hostess explained that they had recently changed the menu. As a starter we had crab dip with sriracha bagel chips. main courses were steak and lobster tail and pasta alfredo with grilled chicken. The steak and lobster came with a potato medley and vegetable... More

This is a beautiful place to stay. The food was great and I loved the setting. There was a large outdoor space complete with beautiful landscaping, hammocks and covered areas for relaxing, live entertainment, dog friendly, and excellent service.

In June there was a MAJOR change to the menu at Public House. It was not good and management allowed Marvin & John to bring back some of the old menu. John contacted me based on my review and invited my family back. Last Saturday was a welcome treat and great to see them back in business. Not only are... More

Excellent atmosphere. In an attempt to keep up with my daughter in her 20 something life I arranged on a whim to meet her at the Public House as she is working in the Shenandoah Park for the Season. The drive from DC in a convertible on a late summer afternoon was beautiful. The purpose of the trip was connecting... More

Lovely outdoor seating with excellent food in a historic country setting. What more could you ask for?

The Public House used to be a great place to go! Wonderful atmosphere, with a menu that would satisfy all members of a dinner table; however, they have had recent changes to staff and menu (portion sizes also decreased) and I would say it wasn't a good change. I understand things change but when something is working and people are... More

We are elated that you liked our atmosphere and staff, but how did you like the food? We understand that you loved the old menu, but what about the taste and quality of the summer menu? Yes, all restaurants change and now we seem to have gotten ourselves in a bit of a pickle (no pun intended). One of the... More

The food was delicious. We had the Prime Rib and Salmon, which were both flavorful. I only regret not leaving room for dessert. Listening to everyone around, I believe we missed out. This is a place I would love to return to. The head chef came out to shake head with every one and introduce his self. Which gives his... More

Lovely setting and seating outdoors; fresh, creative menu does not overwhelm with too many choices; kitchen accommodates vegetarians and allows one to avoid pork/shellfish; attentive service even though shaded area is quite far from kitchen; delicious use of fresh vegetables from organic garden on property.
