Excellent curry

As s Brit, I'm used to Indian food, but I had never tried Afghan cuisine. If Panjshir is anything to go by, I've been missing out. For the uninitiated, the food here is somewhere between Indian and Middle Eastern, with vegetable dishes, kebabs and fragrant rice prominent. Everything we tried was... read more

I happpened to be in Falls Church and found this little Afghan restaurant near the hotel. It is very clean and the staff is friendly. My dish, Zardack Palow, consisting of carrots cokked in a sweet sauce with chick peas and walnuts, rice, and lamb chunks in a very fine sauce. My only reservation is that the helping of lamb... Our group really enjoyed dining in this cozy, unassuming restaurant in the heart of Falls Church. The owner provided excellent personalized service and wonderful food. The Kabab-E-Gos-Fund (lamb kebabs) were well seasoned and succulent, the rice aromatic, and the Banjan Buranee (eggplant with tomato sauce and yogurt) was delicious. Prices are very reasonable. I can't wait to return to try... More

I had the lamb kebab. Delicious. I also had a pudding desert with cardamom. Excellent! We were attended to by the owner himself and also by a shy, young guy who was all smiles. I have been here a few times. Never crowded. Always quiet, with a nice ambiance to enjoy a dinner among friends or family.

I like Afghan food, and Panjshir's is not bad, but the whole place seems tired - from the staff, to the food. This may have been the place to go to 10 years ago, but as dated as the interior is, so is the restaurant. Service is slow, if tolerable.

Having traveled extensively in Central Asia (including Afghanistan), I highly recommend this as an authentic and delicious destination. Several years ago I moved to NYC and have been unable to find a comparable establishment there. Every dish I've had is fantastic. I love their lamb dishes and their awesome baklava. Even if you only want cardamom tea and a dessert,... More

I really don't understand the excitement of the reviewers. All cooked food is prepared way in advance in bulk, everything is stewed, decent but nothing to write home about. No mysteries, all comes lukewarm. You choose any one or a combo of the stew, the exact same cubes of lamb in heavy tomato sauce added to it if you choose... More

Our first visit to this restaurant exceeded our expectations. The service was great and the prices reasonable. We tried the Kadu Parlow which was outstanding in flavor and preparation. The baked pumpkin was topped with yogart and tomato sauce-- very tasty. The lamb was tender and the naan bread was excellent. Spinach rice is served with the meal. For desert... More
