This was an unexpected find. It's part of a dreary motel (You park in the motel parking lot) but the food is really terrific. Very fresh ingredients, very well cooked, in a nice casual atmosphere. There are some reviews claiming it is overpriced, but I thought it was quite reasonable given the quality of the food. Powerful Caipirinhas too!

I have eaten here at least 6 times in the last 2 years. Don't let the next-to-a-motel location fool you--the food here is delicious and the service very friendly. The pabellon is the best item on the menu. Arepas are a good lunch, or dinner if you aren't too hungry. Fried yucca and the spicy accompaniments are a nice appetizer.... More

The food is pretty good, but we spent over $60 (with tax and tip) for lunch for three people who drank water and skipped desserts. The prices are outrageous. The place is small and dingy. The food is the high point and the service was pretty good, but again, I could get a nice dinner for over $20 a person.... More

I'd discovered Venezuelan food recently on a trip to Bonaire, and enjoyed the Arepas (corn cake sandwiches) there, so it was a real treat to find them again so close to home. We shared an appetizer of deep-fried cheese, kind of like egg rolls, only with a wonderful pure cheese center, served with a mustard sauce and jalapeno relish. Highly... More

If I could give zero stars, I would. After excellent word-of-mouth, I was excited to try La Caraquena. Too bad I never got the chance. (1) I called at 8:45 PM on a Saturday to place a take-out order. "Sorry," the hostess said, "we don't do take-out on the weekends because we're too busy." This should have been my first... More

I had wanted to go to this small restaurant for quite a while. Finally decided to go with my two adult daughters tonight - sat outside on this beautiful summer evening. Friendly and attentive service (at first) added to the experience. We loved our food: JP's favorite arepas (tender, well-seasoned beef with sauteed onions), El Sabroso (chicken sandwich with fresh... The food is fresh, beaufiful and delicious. The salads are particularly good if you're minding your calories - my favorites are the avocado or the papaya salads. The sandwiches are great but usually messy. Ask for extra napkins. I have yet to be disappointed on my many viists here.

First, yes, it's in a motor lodge style motel. That's why we didn't try it for a long time. Our mistake. The ambiance is warm and cozy inside. Okay, as to all of you complaining about the slow service.... Don't go here if you aren't prepared to chat with your dining companions at length. It's a charming place, but, yes,... More

This was my second time at La Caraquena. My friend and I went there after it was featured on Diners, Dives, and Drive Inns (DD&D). This show has generated business for the owner. They open for only a few hours for lunch then reopen at 5:30 p.m. (check the hours before going). We found this out the hard way when... More
