If your looking for an old fashioned diner that's dingy, cheap, and weird than 29 diner is the place for you. The food was typical diner food, not too bad. The tables seem like they were made for people in the 5'7'' range and below. It didn't seem like the cleanest place, but the food was fairly cheap. They only... More

The 29 Diner has changed hands and plans to reopen the end of July 2014. Based on the enthusiasm, pride and management experience of the new owner, John Wood, I'm expecting to see (and taste) great things. John is a local Fairfax young man, has managed several TGI Fridays restaurants in the Washington D.C. area and was so good at... More

Must say didn't know what to expect. They had jukeboxes and that old time feel. It is some what run down now, built in 1947. Booth seats have torn coverings. Everyone friendly. I had stack of pancakes and hubby had Italian sausage with rolls and 2 sides (applesauce and home fries). They didn't have any rolls so they substituted toast.... More

I've visited this diner every 4 or so years for the past 30 years. I used to find it an old school, great diner. I love Diners and Dives. Todays visit was horrible. We went when not crowded and ordered breakfast. The waitress was nice, but couldn't understand our order at all, had limited conversation capability, never refilled coffee, and... More

I agree with the less-than-enthusiastic reviews. The building is the real deal (and quite rundown), but the menu is somewhat limited and the food, while adequate, was nothing to write home about. What I missed most was the waitress with the blonde bee-hive hairdo, topping off my coffee, offering home-made pie and calling me "Honey." The over-extended and introverted server,... More

While the food can be variable, it's always good. Likewise the service. However, if you're looking for a "Bejing to Burbank" cookie-cutter experience, you will be disappointed. This is the place to go for a real meal in the middle of the night. Or, anytime!

A very old diner dating back to the 40's with old and new jukebox tunes. You might drive right by unless you're a local because it's nothing special to look at on the outside-- but on the inside we got perfectly cooked eggs and bacon. Service was quick and with a smile--and that's why we look for diners!

My family and I visited for the first time. I ordered the Virginia ham, toast, eggs and home fries. The ham and eggs were good but THE HOME FRIES WERE AWFUL. Please don't order them. The potatoes were dry and burnt. My husband also got the home fries and he didn't like them either. Oh and they only had one... More

It has the ambience of a truck stop but that's what I like about it. It's truly an old time diner. The food is okay, the coffee is good, and they have jukeboxes in the booths!

Nostalgia can only get you so far. This tired looking spot serves average food in a diner setting. OK for a quick meal, but there are better options nearby.
