We are "new" owners and we are honored to be stewarding the 29 Diner! We cleaned her up greatly and have an amazing southern cooking head chef, who specializes in home cooked, comfort, diner food. We hope you stop in and give us a try. John

Great Food & Vintage Atmosphere

This establishment feels like walking back in time to the 40's/50's & the food is great. The essence of the Era this restaurant was established in has been maintained. I love the local places and will choose this one over a chain any day. I would say the food is more comfort/feel good food.

Vintage diner with friendly courteous waitress who served with a smile and checked our table several times. Had a burger and a fried fish sandwich, both very tasty and fresh. Big fat fresh onion rings. Giant milkshake, giant soft drink. I'll go back and bring friends :) The building is so cool, it's an old-time diner, they don't make places... More

I had the cream chipped beef on toast, my companion had a single biscuit with sausage gravy. We split some home fries, and had coffee and water to drink. The cream chipped beef was DELICIOUS!! The sauce was thick and full of flavor. Adding some of the home fries let me enjoy it that much longer. Normally I go for... More

The 29 has been in existence since 1947 under a succession of owners including John, I hope that's his name, the newest, who is dedicated to maintaining its legacy while removing the tarnish from its recent reputation. He couldn't be friendlier, coming by to check on our needs while proudly telling us about his journey with the 29 which is... More

Over twenty-five years ago, I used to eat here from time to time while in the Army. Now all these years later, I took the opportunity to share the experience with my daughter. It was worth the drive out from DC. A fresh mixed milk shake and burger nearly as big as her head impressed my teenage daughter, while the... More

The diner is old-fashioned "cute" and the waitress was kind & friendly. The menu is limited to high fat and high salt choices, which are supposedly made fresh in-house. I was under the impression that the "new owners" were trying to re-invent the 29 Diner by keeping it current with high quality options. Not! So, if you are looking for... More

Yes! This is an authentic vintage diner and it was great! Atmosphere is a throw back to the 50's with original bar stools and tables including a jukebox. The food was great with pancakes that were enormous (as big as the plate) that had a hint of cinnamon. The bacon was so flavorful and the potatoes were perfect. Crisp on... More

Reminiscent of days long past, I was actually awake and up at 2:30 a.m. Having grown up in Fairfax City, I have memories of many late night trips to the diner and was very glad when the diner reopened. Our first trip to the re-opened diner last year was a disappointment (the service was very slow, prices high, and the... More
