Enter thru a porch littered with rubbish through a disorganized pantry filled with assorted cans and u arrive in a quaint Victorian home with a hodgepodge of rooms overflowing with dusty knickknacks. While the atmosphere is somewhat suffocating it could b forgiven if the food was edible and the menu interesting. Unfortunately, that is not the case! The only positives I... More

We stopped overnight in Emporia on our way to Myrtle Beach, and unfortunately the dining choices apart from fast food are few and far between. We looked in the book at the hotel, and one popped up "Squire House" so off we went. We found a Victorian mansion with several dining rooms, very friendly wait staff, interesting décor inside. Fortunately,... More

We often stop in Emporia on our way to Wilmington NC and thought we'd try this charming old house restaurant since my wife likes antiques and historic buildings. We got there at 6:30 and were the only diners on a Thursday night and were anxious to try the Prime Rib which is what they're known for and what's supposed to... More

Work has me in the Emporia Virginia area for the next several months and I was not impressed with the "local" dining options, until I came across the Squire House. It is a very quaint, victorian mansion converted into a resturaunt, full of antiques, history and charm. The wait staff was exceptionaly friendly and helpful and welcoming. The seafood I... More

At first look, the Squire House is just that - a house, which has been converted to a restaurant. Upon walking in, I was intrigued; noticing antiques everywhere, etc. I felt as if my grandma had invited me over to dine in the living room. The charm as you enter however only makes the lack of menu choices, expensive prices,... More

I actually went there with on a date with a special someone before he deployed to Iraq in 2009. We were originally seated in the dining room, but were the only ones there. We were invited to come back to the bar area which was still nice. We were introduced to all the regulars at the bar and given a... More

Have had a couple of large parties, atmosphere is quiet, so its easy for large groups to converse. Food was good. Would go back.

Only the flavorful, albeit two grades overdone prime rib, and a friendly waiter save this terrible place from a zero rating. Positive: - The beef had flavor and the waiter did his best. - The only alternatives were Applebee's or Cracker Barrel. Negative: - "Rare" means medium-well. The only other diner in the place complained about it, but we figured... More

Forget the fast food restaurants off of 95 or the chains such as Applebee's and Cracker Barrel. For an excellent dining experience in Emporia go an extra mile down Main Street and visit the Squire House. It is a beautiful old home that was once a private residence, and it's absolutely charming. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and each one... More
