Changed ownership and quality of food went down hill. Poor service. Attendance dropped off and restaurant closed and is now up for sale. No longer open
It's true. Short Sugar's is closed. I will miss their Bar-B-Que and especially their "hot slaw". They were the premiere restaurant for Virginia bar-b-que in Danville. I don't know why they closed, but sadly, they have. Maybe someone else will come forth and reopen this restaurant.
if you are looking for their original restaurant it is located in Reidsville NC just 20 mins down Hwy 29 South on Scales Street. It is still open and busy. Just want to save my fellow tripadvisor friends some time.

It closed a few days before I visited Danville but I'm told the one in Reidsville, NC is still there. I'll have to venture there one day.
My wife and I were visiting Danville and people suggested we try Short Sugar's. We visited mid-afternoon on a Saturday. The service was slow at first. The food came very fast. We both ordered the chopped pork sandwiches with the tangy slaw. My sandwich bun was very soggy and made it hard to eat (they did not bring us forks).... More
It's been here for over 30 years..... Not quite sure why. Eat at your won risk. One thing in its favor - super cheap. Ribs are OK.... Waitresses seem to get larger with each visit! No visits the last 2-3 years.
It needs to be clear that there are two separate restaurants with this name. This is one of two locations. The other is in Reidsville, NC right over the state line. The barbecue is always excellent in both locations.
