My friends, who live in Charlottesville, suggested The Shebeen for lunch. Perhaps one other time had I eaten in a restaurant with a South-African spin. This was a delightful surprise to me. The menu was very original with items I had truly never seen anywhere else. We settled on the Pork BBQ (I know - not sounding very African), a... More

The BEST calamari I have ever had. I am also not a big meat fan but my family ordered the shepherds pie, which they make with lamb instead of beef. WOW - it was outstanding! So delicious. If you ever find yourself in Charlottesville, the Shebeen is a MUST-visit!

I go to shebeen because they say they play soccer, almost every time I go to watch, the games are not on or the bar is not open or the staff don't know what games are on. After some prompting and direction it is usually worked out. But I think this is part of my problem with the shebeen. it... More

Came here for dinner. Atmosphere is really fun. Menu is interesting and unique, definitely has something for everyone. Wait staff is attentive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for something a bit different! Parking is great as well, right in front of restaurant.

This is a South African pub/restaurant. It's got a really nice mix of different foods, combining European and African influences. We've come here with lots of different groups of people now, and always come away happy. I particularly recommend anything on sugarcane skewers.

We called into this South African themed restaurant for Sunday Brunch. Served by Sean, nothing was too much trouble. I had Eggs Cheasapeke which was Eggs Benedict with crab, it was delicious. One friend had the Cornbeef Hash. The position was enormous and he said it was wonderful. The other friend had Eggs Benedict with Somked salmon, he said itbwas... More

The Shebeen is a unique experience in that it blends various Southern African cuisines, so successfully and deliciously, with warm friendly service and legitimate African artifacts covering the walls. The bar is welcoming and friendly, the prices perfect. You cannot go wrong. The owner/chef has been succeeding at this location for about 12 years now, clearly a mark of his... More

My wife works close by and we meet at Shebeen for lunch every month or so. The food is South African inspired, so it isn't something you'd find on many local menus. They do have rack of lamb and fish and chips along with other dishes you can find elsewhere, but they have a slightly different slant to them. They... More

Great African restaurant tucked away in a little shopping center! Their food is amazing! Outside bar has swing seats... nice touch.
