When Tastings started in 1990 it was the only fully integrated Wine Shop/ Wine Bar/ Restaurant on the East Coast. About twenty years later, there is still only a handful of establishments in the U.S. such as Tastings. Besides being an outstanding wine shop in its own right as well as a fine restaurant, Tastings offers a large selection of wines by the glass. Wines are offered in flights for experimentation with a meal for a modest fee over the retail price of wines in the shop. Tastings' restaurant serves simple, direct cuisine that allows each customer a gustatory and educational experience in a friendly but professional fine restaurant.

Like a fine wine

A great experience because you can select a bottle of wine and drink it with your meal. Being infrequent travelers to Charlottesville, we always seem to find our way back to Tastings. Most recently, we sampled the foie gras with fig reduction, fried oysters (plump, juicy, very light... read more

A great experience because you can select a bottle of wine and drink it with your meal. Being infrequent travelers to Charlottesville, we always seem to find our way back to Tastings. Most recently, we sampled the foie gras with fig reduction, fried oysters (plump, juicy, very light breading-yum!) and steak frites along with a great bottle of South African... More

Kind service, warm atmosphere, and a tasty lamb burger for lunch. The best part is meandering through the wine shop after lunch and checking out all of the selections.

As a Brit visiting Charlottesville I was surprised by the honesty of the old world/grand mere style of food;sincerely French and good value. The wine choice is limitless because the owner has put together a unique collection of European and American bottles. While it is true he will steer you towards the high end stuff, there is good value to be found... It's a wine shop. It's a restaurant. It's both! Don't be surprised if the gentlemen that sells you your wine, takes your dinner order also cooks the delightful meal and brings it to your table. Old school with a culinary twist of deliciousness.

We came on a recommendation from a friend and were quite pleased. There was a large selection of interesting dishes including a grouper and an interesting paella, We were able to split two appetizers, 1 large salad and 2 entrees between 4 people with one shared desert and left feeling quite satisfied. The owner helped us to pick out a... More

If you love wine, and want to eat a tasty meal in the rustic atmosphere of one of Charlottesville's greatest wine shops, then this is the place for you. We had the worlds best lobster bisque and great salad and tried several regional wines last week. The wine store seems to be the main focus but that doesn't mean that they have forgotten the kitchen. They also do a good catering business.

We had an excellent dinner at Tastings of Charlottesville tonight. The brussel sprout salad and fried oyster appetizers were great. The vegetarian wild mushroom entree was delicious. The duck and lamb were perfectly prepared. The wine pairing that was recommended to us was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Also, it is located inside a wine store which was... More

Just off the downtown mall. Favorite place for locals. EVERYTHING on the menu is great. Get on newsletter to enjoy Owner Bill's humor and expertise and food/wine parings. Stamped parking ticket for Market St Garage.

We went here on a recommendation from friends - who frequently go there for dinner. We were told the food was excellent in a very casual environment, with the owner being extremely wine-friendly. Our expectations were exceeded on all accounts. Appetizers were wonderful - some of the best fried oyster - moist and tender. Entrees were bison short ribs and... More
