Great Food - ok atmosphere

The food and wine were great, the atmosphere was a bit too industrial for our liking. I had the duck, he had the vegetarian chili relano. His was SO SO SO much better. The fusion cooking in the relano was great. The duck was not as inspired as thought it could have been. Probably a great spot... read more

Very much enjoyed my first meal here. Cocktails well done -- Mescal manhattan has a spicy kick from chili infused bitters - margaritas made with home made lime based mix - not sweet as in many other places. Food excellent - highly recommend the salmon perfectly grilled with great side sauces and accompaniments - dessert a bit too much lemon

The menu doesn't have that many selections but the items we had were huge on flavor. The atmosphere was inviting and calm but can become lively as people start to enjoy the amazing drink and wine selections. Will come back again next time I am in Charlottesville.

And I took her to Zocalo. I knew that I love the food, but my Peruvian friend gave it two thumbs up! Always to a pleasure to eat here.

Great service, most amazing squash soup I've ever had. Energetic atmosphere. A good place to hang out.

Damn, this is one of the best restaurants I've tried in Charlottesville thus far. The experience starts as soon as you walk in the restaurant; the hostess if ready to take you to your table, as you walk through a brick exposed walls. The restaurant offers a wide variety of drinks ranging from cocktails to wines from around the world.... More

Made reservation on Open Table and requested a quite table and we were celebrating my wife's birthday. They had a great table set for us (party of 4) near the fireplace. The menu (printed) had my wife's name on it wishing her a happy birthday. I was very impressed with their thoughts. Meal was excellent and service over the top.... More

If you were to create a restaurant and wanted the smartest chef in town, this would be the menu you would have. Highly edited, every single item is perfect, and I have eaten every single one. The over complication of the menus where the chef thinks he is brilliant because he has managed to include one of every single plant... More

This is a great location, with wonderful food. Beautiful evening with friends before a concert at the Paramount. The glitch was the server. She brought the food, but everything was an effort. When I asked for decaf coffee she complained she would have to make a pot. When we asked her to ask the chef a question she assured us... More

My wife and I love Zocalo on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. The food is fantastic, the presentation artistic the staff are terrific, and sitting outside is delightful. We celebrate our anniversary every year by eating dinner here and have enjoyed every bite. The cheese fritter appetizer and the chili dusted grilled scallops are excellent. The reduction sauces are complex,... More
