Waited to be acknowledged at the door. Waited far too long for food after we ordered. Asked when food would be ready, the waitress gave us excuses, then avoided us. People who came in after us got their food at least 10 minutes before us. AC blasting-- freezing. Food just okay, but caramelized onions barely sautéed.

While meandering down the pedestrian mall in Charlottesville looking for a place to have lunch, we stumbled upon the Nook. We ate in the outdoor dining area, which was a lovely way to enjoy the beautiful whether, people watching, as well as the Nook's delicious food. From traditional diner fare (they serve breakfast all day) to more exotic menu items,... More

Lunch was good. I don't want to say any better than good. It just wouldn't be true. But, that certainly could have been a reflection of what I ordered: quiche and salad special. Even my bloody mary (supposed to be spicy) was a bit bland and watery. The highlight of our meal was our server. She was bubbly and full... More

Brunch today (a tomato-and-fresh-basil omelette and a crab benedict) reminded us of why we come back here whenever we're in Charlottesville. The Nook's blend from Trager Brothers Coffee is a big draw for us, but we also always like the food and the genuinely friendly feel of the place. We came in after an excellent and interesting Court House Square... More

The sign says this place has been open since 1951. I can see why. Amazing service and great value for money. We ate there several times. Once we arrived not realizing it was 5 minutes before closing. The staff insisted we order and stay as long as we liked with no pressure to leave. Diner style food is just like... More

I went to the Nook after taking a campus tour of University of Virginia. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside because it was a really hot day. Inside has a basic diner-like feel, with nothing flashy but by no means ugly. The A/C was refreshing at first but as we waited for the food... More

Easily found and parking although tricky was found close to restaurant. Service was a little slow for ordering, our food being checked on ("how is everything?" when we were done eating), and to get our check (asked a random person to get it). The food was very good (two sandwiches/egg's ben/crab cakes). Loved the crab cakes!

We only visited the Nook for breakfast (on a couple of occasions) but it was good - the corned beef hash was very good in particular. Eggs (in various forms) were well cooked and tasty, and above everything the food arrived promptly on warm plates and was clearly hot and freshly prepared. The only minor gripe was the water for... We were looking for a nice and quick brunch on Sunday morning before heading to Monticello and this was the right place. Since we were staying at the Omni which is located at the head of this pedestrian mall, we found the Nook to be quite convenient. Although there was a wait for a table on this Sunday late morning,... along Charlottesville cool pedestrian mall, old fashioned comfort food with warm, fast service. Highly recommended for those who want a salad or burger with a milkshake.
