My family stopped here on our way home to Chicago. The outside seating looked tempting, but we decided on a table inside. I had the bananas foster waffles and my son had the bananas foster pancakes - both were excellent. (I've had bananas foster at Brennan's in New Orleans, and I'm pretty picky about it.) My youngest had the eggy... More

If you want a greasy spoon diner experience in the middle of an urban / hipster district, then this is your place. The service was wonderful and very accommodating for a family with a toddler. The burgers brought back memories of diner fare as a child and the milk shake was quite tasty. The fries were nothing special as they... More

Food, staff, and atmosphere were wonderful! Worth the trip! One of the best crab cakes I've ever had, and the first with breakfast!

We're in town for a wedding and were walking the pedestrian mall in downturn Charlottesville. The Nook has that cool, retro vibe and the food was delicious. I had the Tuna Melt (on English Muffin) and my wife had Tuna Salad on a salad. Both were tasty and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Sitting outside on the mall,... More

Waited to be acknowledged at the door. Waited far too long for food after we ordered. Asked when food would be ready, the waitress gave us excuses, then avoided us. People who came in after us got their food at least 10 minutes before us. AC blasting-- freezing. Food just okay, but caramelized onions barely sautéed.

While meandering down the pedestrian mall in Charlottesville looking for a place to have lunch, we stumbled upon the Nook. We ate in the outdoor dining area, which was a lovely way to enjoy the beautiful whether, people watching, as well as the Nook's delicious food. From traditional diner fare (they serve breakfast all day) to more exotic menu items,... More

Lunch was good. I don't want to say any better than good. It just wouldn't be true. But, that certainly could have been a reflection of what I ordered: quiche and salad special. Even my bloody mary (supposed to be spicy) was a bit bland and watery. The highlight of our meal was our server. She was bubbly and full... More

Brunch today (a tomato-and-fresh-basil omelette and a crab benedict) reminded us of why we come back here whenever we're in Charlottesville. The Nook's blend from Trager Brothers Coffee is a big draw for us, but we also always like the food and the genuinely friendly feel of the place. We came in after an excellent and interesting Court House Square... More

The sign says this place has been open since 1951. I can see why. Amazing service and great value for money. We ate there several times. Once we arrived not realizing it was 5 minutes before closing. The staff insisted we order and stay as long as we liked with no pressure to leave. Diner style food is just like... More

I went to the Nook after taking a campus tour of University of Virginia. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but we chose to sit inside because it was a really hot day. Inside has a basic diner-like feel, with nothing flashy but by no means ugly. The A/C was refreshing at first but as we waited for the food... More
