We were walking around downtown Charlottesville with our 2 dogs and decided it was time for happy hour and a few appetizers. We went to the hostess and asked if we could sit outside with our pets. They said absolutely. Immediately after we were seated they brought a water bowl for our dogs and we ordered our first drinks! They... More

Atmosphere is nice and we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly however the food was not good. The bluefish salad was warm and tasted fishy and the next day we both had stomach issues. Main entree shrimp and grits was just ok as were the tacos. I would not recommend.

I'm always reluctant to rate any restaurant a 2, but other than a pleasant and reasonably efficient server, our food was just plain poor. The sad part is that our dining experiences in the distant past were very good...not superb but very good. The first hint should have been that there were almost no diners, inside or outside, at 7... Our dinner was excellent, fish tacos which my wife said were the best ever. My shrimp and grits were very well done. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall a good choice and we were surprised others did not have a similar experience. We sat outside on the mall which was very pleasant.

We sat at the bar on a busy Saturday night. The bartender didn't make eye contact and didn't use words to greet us. We had to ask for everything we wanted. We ordered oysters first, drinks second, and when he didn't stop to ask us if we wanted anything else, we called him over to order food. The whiskey sour,... More

first--they are known for their oysters but it smells bad so I would never eat an oyster here. Seafood should never smell like seafood. The food is okay. The price is too high for what it is. The service was surly. My boyfriend and I were there with two other couples and asked for a separate check and she brought... More

I took a faculty candidate to dinner at the Blue Light, and was quite disappointed. Waiter seemed disinterested. I thought the menu was overpriced-prices were similar to other downtown restaurants,, but less was included, and the food was mediocre. Would not recommend- there are better options.

A hopping place on Saturday night - we sat at the bar. The crab hush puppies were piping hot and came quickly. Everyone was having a good time - but the noise level remained tolerable.

Waited only a short time for a table on a Saturday night. Bar area is pleasant for waiting and wine list and cocktail menu are nice. Great burger, and really really tasty mussels! Friendly and accommodating staff. Not much ambiance - but its comfortable and the noise level is manageable.

I generally enjoyed my time at Blue Light Grill, and I rarely ever take the time to write reviews, but there are a few things I would like to point out about my dining experience. There was an excellent selection of specialty cocktails and our server (I think her name was Catherine?) was great. The food was nothing to write... More

Thank you for taking time to write a review and bringing this issue to our attention. On behalf of our kitchen staff, I'd like to apologize for their behavior. The offending employee is appalled by his own decorum as well as the representation of our restaurant. We hope you give us another chance despite his lapse in judgment. More
