Good Choice

A nice find on a Wednesday night. We walked all of the Resturant district and settled on the skybar at Commonweath Resturant. The shrimp tempura and fried oyster appetizers was awesome. The lamb was good and my business associate had the roast chicken that he loved. Overall I would go back after I... read more

We like Charlottesville for a relaxing overnight stay on our occasional drives north to Washington or New York .. and always enjoy browsing the Downtown Mall (check The Oyster House (Asian) antiques) . Many alluring lunch or dinner stops and this time it was Commonwealth. We wanted to relax and have a light repast at best: Cocktails set a good... More

After touring Monticello all day and staying in Massanutten VA (very rural) with our college age kids, looking for a great restaurant for Foodies. This place was recommended to us and did't disappoint! Food was great & service was above and beyond! Also in a great location to sit outside & people watch!

I have now been twice and had the $25 4 course tasting menu, which is EXCELLENT. I would say, though, that if I didn't have a sweater with me I am not sure I could have stayed - the air-conditioning was waaaay too cold and/or my location was bad.

We had 3 households in Charlottesville to attend a wedding at UVA the following evening. Our group included my wife and I, plus son, my daughter, son-in-law his mother and their 8 month old baby boy. We explored tripadvisor in advance of our trip and selected the Commonwealth Restaurant & Skybar as it was nice, appeared to offer interesting fare... More

I loved the lamb chops which was the special evening entrée. My husband hated the pork chop because it was "too salty" and the vegetarian dish selected by our friend was "okay" and the duck was great according to her husband. So when there are four people dining and the reviews are so varied I cannot just base the review... More

My husband and I were looking for a nice dinner our first night in town and we drove down to the pedestrian mall to walk around and look for some place to eat. We choose this restaurant a lot because they had their menu posted. We were seated quickly and waited in quickly. We both had seafood which was well... More

Came here around 7ish on a weeknight. Place was getting full. We tried the tasting menu: for $25, you get four courses. Portions are smaller than if you ordered from the menu directly, but with the four courses it is a nice-sized meal. I had a party of 3. Our server Katherine could memorize all our four courses and getting... More

Tasting menu runs four beautiful little courses (including dessert) for $25. Lovely presentation. Just enough quantity. Wine was pricey, but not out of line. Several local beers on draft, as well as some good bottled selections. Full portion entrees also available; one of us chose that. Service was pleasant, timely, and attentive. Rainy night, so we ate indoors. Would certainly... More

It's a really nice location for a drink/meal downtown. The table service gets a little slow when it gets crowded, but that's to be expected. We stopped here for drinks before a show and had a good time people watching. Decent selection of drinks. Good service.
