I had never dined at the Clifton Inn and thought that restaurant week would be the excuse to drive over for the experience. First impressions were that it's not as elegant as I thought it might be--especially when compared to some of the other higher end spots to dine in the area. The dining area was . . . well... More

We both had the agnolotti and then the pork. We have eaten here whenever in the Charlottesville area. This time was disappointing.

The appetizer vegetable salad with small, service was slow the steak was tough and 3 1/2 hours later we had to leave before our dessert game. Didn't even consider sending anything back since it took so long anyway .

I was taken here for my birthday after having been here several times before. The first impression was that the host wore baggy jeans with a sport coat and our server had a very dirty apron on. Basically, they are resting on past laurels because the food is bland, poorly thought out and executed. The bread, while delicious, was not... More

My salad was a few vegetables with a barely discernable, bland dressing. The scallops were good, but some of the beets were undercooked. The "confit of duck" was not the usual slow cooked duck leg. Instead I was served a few undercooked vegetables and two RAW slces of duck breasts. I sent them back. At this price point, I would expect... More

Maybe we made a mistake getting the tasting menu. Years of visits to France may have set our expectations too high. But the soup was watery, many of the courses tasted the same (ALL were garnished with fennel fronds) and some poorly executed with baby turnips that were bitter and hard. At the price, not worth it. Breakfast was also... More

After a disastrous dining experience last Christmas Day, we returned to give it another try. It did not even seem to be the same restaurant! The service was impeccable: well informed, competent, helpful. The food was outstanding. Nice seasonal selection. We did the four course option paired with well selected wines. While pricey, the value is there.

This country inn provides extremely fine dining in a lovely rural setting. The quality of the food and preparation was excellent. There's an eight-course tasting menu, or you can choose four courses on your own. A nice variety of dishes, with interesting sauces and combinations. The service is strangely haphazard (we had to ask for some things more than once;... More

We held my daughter's bridal shower at the Clifton Inn. The food and service were top notch. Chelsea went above and beyond by helping coordinate the surprise. Francois was a perfect gentleman, standing by in case we needed anything. Looking forward to the wedding when we can enjoy the whole property. It's very classy yet comfortable, just our style.
