very good

This Thai food is very good--some things better than others. Some dishes have that pre-minced garlic aftertaste. Pad Thai is okay--too bland, needs more vinegar, broth, and general flavor. I really like the red curry and the chicken noodle soup. Soup comes in a giant bowl. Ask for a bowl and a... read more

This is a great place! Love the fried rice, drunken noodles, and Thai ice tea here. The spice level is adjustable and they cater to different palettes. Excellent consistency when it comes to the food. I've never found the food here "lacking". If you have a penchant for spice, you should head here ASAP.

I'm a big fan of Thai food and one of my favorite meals ever was on the Mekong River, so I had high hopes for this restaurant, but was not highly impressed. They have a very limited menu, and the food did not stand out. No delicious Thai soups! It wasn't bad--just nothing special. The atmosphere is very informal, more... More

Cafe de Bangkok is a disgrace. This place is much better, especially by comparison. It could be more authentic and the menu selection wider, but it's a standard take-out joint for me and most of my friends when I'm too tired to cook a curry, myself. The spring rolls are pretty disappointing, as are most of the apps. The bun... More

Unpretentious place but a good standby for a very satisfying Asian meal. The pho is my favorite. I like the Pad Thai, too, although the "mild" version might be too mild for some. Bun and Pad Kee Mao are also tasty Portions are very good. Wish they had more vegetables -- we get the Chinese broccoli often. Pay at the... More

I've always loved Asian cuisine but had never experienced Thai until Cafe Mekong. Great service and excellent food. I will return.

Have a soup, or a curry, and a Thai Iced Tea, and things will be good. Skip the over-priced, skimpy appetizers, unless you've never tried them and are curious. Very high corkage fees for wine and beer for such an ordinary little strip-mall lunch spot.

I really enjoy eating at this restaurant. My favorites are the Bun, the Vietnamese Pork and the Drunken Noodle. My least favorite is the mild Pad Thai. If you are going to order the Pad Thai ask for medium or hotter so that you get the heated flavor. The Bun is my go to summer dish at this restaurant and... More

For a university town Blacksburg doesn't have much to choose from, so Cafe Mekong is a good choice for inexpensive food, mainly Thai. It seems popular with students from Asia, the food is OK, not very spicy but fairly authentic, and servings are generous. The Mekong theme could be made more interesting by adding more dishes from Laos, Vietnam and... More
