You can have exceptional, top of the line fine dining quality food and still have a fun, relaxing evening too. At our house, no need to worry about talking too loud or using the wrong fork. Relax, eat, enjoy. Step through our 19th century doors and savor our 21st century legacy. Once a popular stagecoach stop, the 1846 Tavern and Restaurant at the West Dover Inn continues an important American tradition begun over 160 year ago. Nestled away in Vermont’s picturesque Green Mountains, this historic tavern and restaurant lovingly blends fresh local ingredients with modern inventive recipes to create a fun and memorable night out. Our sauces are hand crafted, our certified Black Angus burgers and steaks are hand-cut and our fresh seafood hand selected. Enjoy an intimate fireside dinner in the dining room, a fun family night out in the restaurant or a cold drink while watching the game and listening to live music in the tavern.

Great Tavern!

This place has a nice homeyl feel to it. Great place to have a meal in Dover. We came here after a long day on the slopes. Great food and beer selection. Great acoustic singer was there singing some great songs while we dined.

Went for dinner. The place is wonderful: I had the scallops and they were phenomenal!!!! My husband had the duck and said it was the best duck dish he's ever had (big words coming from someone who eats at the best Manhattan and Brooklyn restaurants). It was great for kids!!! My son loved the salmon BLT!!! Delicious!!!

My husband chose this restaurant because they had venison but when we got there he saw they advertised their Shepard's Pie as the best. He ordered the SP and was not disappointed. I wasn't as hungry so I ordered a hamburger. Very good, juicy and hand shaped. I was able to substitute a salad for the fries. That made me... More

Wendy, thank you for the feedback. I am glad you and your husband enjoyed your shepard's pie and burger. We use local beef which we think helps increase the flavor! We are happy to hear the atmosphere was just what you were looking for and we hope to see you again. More

The dining area is very nice. The waitress was excellent. We were 3 couples and completely satisfied with all our food choices, from an outrageous chowder to beef and salmon entree selections. The only thing to disappoint us was a rather bizarre and discourteous exchange with the bartender who also assisted in serving. We would have rated this 5 stars... More

Have to say we have never been disappointed here. We were here with party of 8, 4 adults and 4 kids and sat in the new bar area at a high top table. Love the atmosphere and the service was fantastic. My husband had the clam chowder with bacon which was the best we have ever had! I had a... More

The meal here was rushed and slow. We had reservations for 7 and were seated promptly. Then the wait began. 20minutes for drinks. Food arrived one hour and ten minutes after we sat down. The wings were not crispy...as if they had been rushed. But we waited over an hour to receive them. This is what I mean by rushed... More

Thank you for the feedback as we always appreciate hearing about our customer's experience. I recall your reservation. Our servers have a lot of favorites on the menu but you make a point that perhaps we should be specific when asked about top recommendations-thank you for that feedback. I apologize there was the delay in receiving your drinks and food.... More

I was skiing in Mt. Snow and asked the Innkeeper for a dinner suggestion; he recommended the 1847 Tavern. I was glad he did. I had the Shepard's Pie, it was very tasty. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. All in all, a good experience.

We are here last night on a family trip to Vermont and it was very delicious. I had the Shepard's Pie which I think was the best of all three, but my mother-in-law had fish and chips and my husband had the duck. I tried all three and they were all delicious. The desserts of apple pie and lava cake... More

Enjoyed it very much. Great menu, some good "trendy" choices (enjoyed the Brussel sprout fries!) and good atmosphere. Has nice choice for children - family of 4 ate well and enjoyed.
