You can have exceptional, top of the line fine dining quality food and still have a fun, relaxing evening too. At our house, no need to worry about talking too loud or using the wrong fork. Relax, eat, enjoy. Step through our 19th century doors and savor our 21st century legacy. Once a popular stagecoach stop, the 1846 Tavern and Restaurant at the West Dover Inn continues an important American tradition begun over 160 year ago. Nestled away in Vermont’s picturesque Green Mountains, this historic tavern and restaurant lovingly blends fresh local ingredients with modern inventive recipes to create a fun and memorable night out. Our sauces are hand crafted, our certified Black Angus burgers and steaks are hand-cut and our fresh seafood hand selected. Enjoy an intimate fireside dinner in the dining room, a fun family night out in the restaurant or a cold drink while watching the game and listening to live music in the tavern.

Wow ! This place has it all, history, ,location, great service (Courtney) and awesome food quality. If your in SO VT you have to make a trip to 1846 Tavern. We shared a Caesar and both had the Scallops with Carrot Risotto. I would compare the food quality with any I've had in any major city... read more

Cliff our server and bartender was a hoot and we had fun reminiscing about earlier times at the Mountain back in the day. The food was delicious and the evening laid back and low key which is what we were looking for -prices not too expensive either and wines and drinks were great too!

We had a wonderful time, especially after a couple of visits to other area restaurants which turned out to be big disappointments (over priced ordinary food with no interest at all). Highly recommend.

We went here for dinner and it was exactly what you would want out of a local Vermont bar. Great friendly service, quality beer and quality food. We will most definitely be coming back again.

Went for dinner. The place is wonderful: I had the scallops and they were phenomenal!!!! My husband had the duck and said it was the best duck dish he's ever had (big words coming from someone who eats at the best Manhattan and Brooklyn restaurants). It was great for kids!!! My son loved the salmon BLT!!! Delicious!!!

My husband chose this restaurant because they had venison but when we got there he saw they advertised their Shepard's Pie as the best. He ordered the SP and was not disappointed. I wasn't as hungry so I ordered a hamburger. Very good, juicy and hand shaped. I was able to substitute a salad for the fries. That made me... More

Wendy, thank you for the feedback. I am glad you and your husband enjoyed your shepard's pie and burger. We use local beef which we think helps increase the flavor! We are happy to hear the atmosphere was just what you were looking for and we hope to see you again. More
