Unique and charming interior, ideal service, delicious food and wine

I was in Stowe for the first time and looking for a birthday worthy dining experience-to me that is a unique interior with a soothing ambience and very professional service with an "every morsel delicious" meal. I found it all at Hen of the Wood. I wish I could remember the name of the French pinot... read more

The building is gorgeous and the food is even better. My husband and I stayed in Stowe for our first anniversary and we were blown away by the friendliness of all the people we met and the quality of food we consumed. Hen of the Wood, our special occasion night, was by far the best part of the experience. We... More

Candlelight reflects beautifully off the stone walls and wood beams on the ceilings. We began our meal with a selection of cheeses from local cheese producers. The cheeses were paired with homemade crackers, hazelnuts and a pear butter which were truly amazing. The hangar steak entrée was as tender as cutting into butter. Simply delicious. Dessert was the only minor... More

The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. The food is unique and its tough to choose what selection to order. Local produce and ingredients are used when available and prepared with skill and served with a flair. The demand is such that you need to plan and reserve well in advance, but it is well worth it.

Named for a large type of mushroom. Beautiful, tiny place in an old mill on a lovely stream and waterfall. Table 41 sits outside, closest to the waterfall, but they do not take reservations for the three tables outside. I wanted to love this place, but left merely liking it. Soup was way too salty. Menu didn't not always reflect... More

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, I'd even say intimate even though the space is not huge. Nestled in front of the Thatcher Brook the building is rich in history. The feel of a restaurant is only a part of the experience and doesn't really matter if the food is no good. This restaurant has it all. Loved the fresh,... More

I love this restaurant Except, the freezing temperature on a cold night at the lower table. One problem is they use the back yard as a fridge but it is not enclosed so the wind blows in and settles in the lower dining room. I would say the temperature was about 50 degrees. Other times have not had this issue.... More

We visited here on a cold winters evening with some good friends. It really is an outstanding restaurant not only in terms of food but also in aesthetics and atmosphere. The varied menu focuses on local and regional produce and does not disappoint and the whole party enjoyed the meal. The wine list also is excellent with a good mixture... More

I recently visited here with some colleagues and a client and was blown away by the food, service and ambience! It's the best restaurant I have been to in all of Vermont . The cheese selections were a terrific way to start and for dinner I had the rabbit special, which was delicious. The only problem we had was trying... More
