Our family had the chance to dine here for dinner this week which is still considered "mud season". During this week, the restaurant had a great special - small plate, large plate and cheese plate for $35 per person. We found the selections to be delicious and we all enjoyed tasting/sharing each others choices. We selected the octopus, blue fish,... More

I went here twice in 2 weeks and loved both experiences! The food was amazing and the drinks were really good. The first time I had the mushroom toast and the beef. Both were really good although my beef came out a touch cold (but the fish my dad ordered was piping hot upon arrival). The 2nd time, I went... More

Probably the best restaurant in Waterbury. However not the best restaurant of all time. My wife and I decided to take a drive out to The Hen of the Wood for a romantic meal & to escape her family while we made a routine trip to Burlington. We had an early reservation (we had plans for later & they only... More

H.O.T.W. is a great sport for a romantic dinner. Ask if you can reserve the table for two, side by side, in front of the big window. Our meal was quite expensive, but after drinks, apps and dessert, it was worth every penny. Will definitely return for another visit.

We are locals who normally frequent this great restaurant about 4-5 times each year. On 2/28/14 we had superior service (the waitstaff is so exceptional) but we waited almost one hour between the end of our appetizers being finished and finally having dinner being served (there were empty tables in the house). Is there is a connection between the absence... More

We've dined at Hen of The Wood for a few years now. The restaurant is rustic and on the smaller side but the food is amazing and different. As some have noted, the menu is limited, but they offer a variety of chicken, fish and meat. The food is sourced locally and is very fresh. If you like rabbit, I'd... More

Terrific setting, cozy but modern atmosphere, this restaurant has a limited but fantastic menu. Locally sourced dishes are really incredible. We started with the radish butter and home-baked bread and fell instantly in love with everything that followed. The wine list is extensive with a wide-range of prices. Our waiter was extremely informed and attentive. For a 50th birthday, it... More

The food is always surprisingly different and unique, plus delicious. Desserts are also incredible. One thing I love is, when you come in, you can see the kitchen and everything that goes on…. specially what's cooking or going to be prepared.… if you want to do this, and I personally like that. Service is efficient and very friendly. In the... More
