Rustic Vermont "Smokehouse", good food & live music

We ended up at the "Smokehouse" on the recommendation of another local restaurant. On Saturday night at 6:30 (Ski season)waiting time for a table was 45 mins., so we had dinner at the bar. The bar/restaurant is good size, the atmosphere is simple, very rustic..the patrons looked like primarily... read more

Laid back atmosphere and absolutely outstanding BBQ. The ribs were moist and generous. I could not comfortably finish a half-rack, so shared with my friend who had only ordered a quarter-rack. Good choices of sides. I heartily recommend their coleslaw. We were there on a Wednesday night, and the special was some kind of drumsticks (sorry, can't remember) which were... More

Great place to get BBQ and a beer or music, food and drinks later. They have a spread of BBQ sauces to try which I enjoyed with the pulled pork. There was other food if BBQ isn't your thing. They have live bands there and an open mic night there for those who think they have talent. Definitely a local... More

Always watch the Superbowl here.A partisan crowd if any East coast team make it, which makes for a good atmosphere. Great choice of beers and food (And plenty of it, try sharing the nachos). Warm and friendly.

I grew up in the Mad River Valley and this bar/restaurant has been around since the 70's and has changed names a few times. I used to frequent it when it was called Moose Lips back in the day. Years later it became the Mad Mountain Tavern and was one of the most popular bar and restaurants in the valley...it... More

First place we went to in Mad River and it was good. Great food at a great price. Definitely less expensive and fancy than some of the other places, this places serves up a good bite that won't break the wallet

A good place for lots of smoked food at a reasonable price. Funky interior, with surprisingly nice gardens in the back. Well smoked meats, and plenty of it, friendly service, lots so locals eating here. You will not walk away hungry. Our friends had tex-mex options which they also liked. The ribs were especially good

Warning...Do not go here too late in the evening. It is a bar for local folks, thus the name. With that out of the way let me say that the owners of this place know how to smoke Pork. Going to Vermont from Virginia I did not expect to find really good BBQ. This place proved me wrong. Theirs is... More
