Tasty food, great service

you could make a meal on the fabulous warm bread and olive oil, but save room for the rest of the meal. The vegetarian soup was delicious. The menu had two delicious fish options for the non-meat eaters. Be warned...do not arrive early. Whatever time they advertise that they open is exactly when... read more

Top notch food at a great price. The ragout was incredible and atmosphere was cozy. Nice craft beer choices, but I wish it had some on draft..

Peasant Restaurant exceeds all expectactions. A small restaurant (which seats at most 40 people) in the heart of Waitsfield, it's easy to overlook -- but don't! From the friendly service, to the crusty bread, to the scrumptious appetizers, to the main course, the specialty cocktails -- this is a restaurant meal to plan for, deliberate over, dress up for, savor... Peasant is warmly renovated with a quaint bar in the back room. It is family run and service and kindness is impeccable. The disappointment comes with the same menu year round - which tends to be on the hearty side and food preparation somewhat unexciting. In my opinion, if they varied the menu more and found some new recipes from... More

Peasant was booked solid so 3 of us were lucky to get seated at the bar. Tuscan meatballs and Brussel sprout salad apps were delicious. Trout and side spinach could not have been better. The salmon cakes (with a bit of jalapeño?) were a bit spicy for my daughter but left a satisfying heat on the palette. The cassoulet included... More

Peasant offers everything one might desire in a Vermont village restaurant; warm and welcoming decor, friendly and accommodating hosts, and excellent food. The cassoulet is outstanding - the perfect warming dish after a day of skiing. Meatballs in white wine have a unique and interesting flavor - worth trying. Also consistently good; the orecchiette and the ragout (which changes nightly).... More

If you're looking for a fabulous evening, you must visit Peasant. Just steps from the covered bridge in romantic Waitsfield, flavorful aromas and friendly staff offer an inviting welcome the moment you step through the door. They do accept reservations and there's a delightful bar in the back of the restaurant if you arrive early. The menu had an Italian... More

Yes, it does live up to the hype. My wife ordered the peasant salad and beef stew. I ordered the meatball appetizer and the ragout (beef tonight) over penne with assiago cheese. The peasant salad was simple but properly dressed (not drenched in dressy with soggy greens). Her beef stew was beefy delicious. I hope you like perfectly stewed beef... More
