From the start when I called for a reservation, the staff was fantastic, It was a Saturday night, so the restaurant was busy and we reserved the only time available - 8:00 pm. They said the table was near the entrance and could be drafty when doors opened. The person on the phone was so nice I decided we can... More

We were very pleased with our first visit to Roots. They use the freshest of ingredients, and use local produce and meat. The server told me that the Salmon was fresh from Canada, and my wifes beef was local. VERY small place, maybe only space for 24-30 people at a time, be sure to make a reservation. We sat at... More

My wife and I had just arrived in Rutland and not knowing our way around, parked in a multi storey lot and walked up and down the main street looking for somewhere to eat. We turned a corner and found Roots. The restaurant was fairly busy, but we got a table for two. The atmosphere is a comfortable earthy eclectic consistent... More

Had the chicken carbonara. It was fabulous. Also had the black bean cakes as an appetizer, also fabulous. Small restaurant. Limited seating. Called for reservations and they accommodated us same day Friendly wait staff.

I looked forward to returning to Roots after several good meals last year. This meal was disappointing. The ingredients tasted fresh, but they were prepared in ways that made them unappetizing. A chicken wrap had so much aioli that I swallowed a mouthful of what might as well have been pure mayonnaise. The grilled Brussels sprouts, a special side of... More

We stopped by for a late lunch on our way from Vermont to NJ. We discovered this little place based on the great reviews of TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed. We ordered leek and potato soup, seared shrimp salad. They were just perfect. We also had Reuben sandwich and pulled pork sandwich, they were both very good. The service was... More

Our hosts for the weekend suggested Roots since they've heard a lot about it and wanted to try it. Great pick! There's a whole story about the restaurant itself, as well as its support of the local growers, but for me it's more about the food and the overall experience. And this is where Roots excels. Starting with the phone... More

Rolled into Killington to rendezvous with a co-worker from the past currently working at Dartmouth and the dining options looked pretty grim. Checked out 2 supermarkets to get together stuff for nibbles and drinks and just got blown away by the paucity of anything that even hinted of healthy. Long story short, ended up checking TripAdvisor and found Roots. No... More

Were able to get a same day, late night (9pm) reservation on a Saturday. Waitress (Mel) was helpful, providing us with a great wine for the dinner. Dinner was great. Emu Chimmichuri, green beans, potatoes...hmmmm...yum yum. Will be back if ever in town again.

Our waiter was awesome and chatted us up, nice change from the service in NYC. Place was kind of hippie-ish and down to earth, we heard a lot of 90's tunes. Food and drinks were excellent, delicious and fresh. Place was near-empty when we went, which was really nice for us but I was surprised that a gem like this... More
