Each dish appeared to be created with care and attention to the detail. Fresh local ingredients (and local brew) made the dishes slightly unique but not off the charts. Great place, great food.

This was an amazing restaurant. The risotto I had was phenomenal, my fiancees salmon was delicious (I had a bite). The bread served before hand was great, too. And for such great food, the price was reasonable (for a 'night out'). A definite must if you're in Rutland.

My wife and I had a fabulous dining experience. The staff and servers are friendly and welcoming. Meni is based on local farms and seasonal availability. Great wine selection to compliment any meal. Reservations are recommended.

Staff were so knowledgable about every dish and couldn't have been friendlier! I love the fact the restaurant uses local produce, other restaurants should take note!

I tried this restaurant soon after it opened and was not impressed. A more recent visit, however, showed dramatic improvements. Dishes were well-conceived, skillfully prepared, and knowledgeably presented. Roots now offers a dining experience to match any in Vermont. Farm-to-table is now a cliche in Vermont as a restaurant trend. Unfortunately, the local fare is often served with a healthy... More

I have eaten at Roots several times and have never been disappointed. They get their food from local farmers and markets so everything is fresh. Their dishes are a little different then you would find elsewhere in Rutland but they are always very good and the presentation is awesome too. If your looking to eat healthy this is the place... This restaurant is pretty small and though right in downtown Rutland, I missed it in the past when I drove by. We tried the Sausage and shrimp risotto and the scallop with broccoli rabe, both were excellent and decently priced. Service was also great. We had a good time.

It was a great experience, from the atmosphere to the staff and of course the drinks and food! We are thinking it is only a 2 hour drive up there to go again for dinner sometime. We had the Fried Gnocchi and Maple Shrimp on Sweet Potato Pancake for Appetizers, along with a few drinks. All excellent! I had one... More

We booked for an early dinner on Mothers Day. The service from Maitre'd to waitress was excellent. The food was poor. Beet salad was tasteless, lamb was tough and dessert wired spicing. Overall... Much like Rutland itself, disappointing.

We wood never have found this place without Trip Advisor!!! And, are we glad we did! The tomato soup sounds so good that we decided to have a bowl each and split a salmon sandwich---what a great combination. This is the kind of place you wish you could go back to every day. In fact, it seemed like most of... More
