Breakfast was okay but they are trying to hard here!

This spot sits in a tourist trap known as The Quechee Gorge Village on Route 4 near the Quechee Gorge. The village is all sorts of shops and Vermont products etc. This is in an old train car and in what appears to be an old barn (its not that old seeing this place was built in the last 10... read more

Unfortunately I had the same experience that others had--AND our credit card was stolen by the waitstaff! The grilled cheese was just awful. I kept prodding my sons to please eat their food-- until I tasted it. So they just ate the pickles. My father's sandwich was fine, but the food was of VERY uneven quality. The waitstaff never brought... More

We ate at the Farmer's Diner in January 2009. While the place was busy, we did not have to wait long. The server was attentive and brought our hot chocolate and milkshake quickly. The order (pancakes and crispy bacon) were very delicious. The server checked back often and removed plates, etc., as we finished. We were not rushed to leave... More

They sat us next to a woman wearing half a bottle of perfume. While trying to breathe, I noticed that the place had a lot of flies. And there were open containers of something to spread on toast just sitting on a shelf waiting to serve to customers. The food was okay, but pricey

The Farmers Diner sounds great - local food served in a diner car. But they have some serious staff issues. We arrived to be told of a 15-20 minute wait despite numerous empty tables. After that, we got seated in the bland dining room instead of the diner car, because we were told that would be an even longer wait... More

We stopped in for lunch. When we arrived, the train car was nearly empty, and we were the only customers waiting to be seated. Expecting to sit in the train car, I was initially disappointed when the seating hostess showed us to a table in the drab dining room, but decided that it didn’t really matter. We asked for ice... At first, we were told that there was a 45 minute wait. We left to go somewhere else but shopped at the plaza for about 15 minutes. When we went to leave the plaza, I poked my head back in the restaurant and asked how long the wait was now. Was told we could be seated right away. Took seats... More

As a local, I've been wanting to hit up the Diner for months, but have never had the opportunity on a weekday (the weekends are apparently quite busy). My parents, three children and I finally made the trip, but were quite disappointed with the experience, I'm sorry to say. While the atmosphere was lovely, the service was quite poor. We... More

We stopped here for lunch during our June vacation. We ordered hamburger and fries and it was great! The staff was friendly and informative, and everything was clean. We were seated in the dining area as the "dining car" was full and we had a really nice meal. I hope others will have the same experience as we did, if... More

Apparently the best thing going for the Farmer's Diner is its PR person, because you'd think it was great based on the many raves in New England publications. Having actually eaten there twice now, the experience is nothing to write home about. The first time we went there it was soon after it opened and they were short staffed. When... More
