A favorite of ours.

We love this restaurant and the German food. Sauerbraten is my favorite. We live in the area and try to eat here whenever we go to Rutland (which is just down the road). The only negative is the service is slow. It appears that the way food is served in a very methodical method is intentional... read more

It is difficult to find a great German restaurant. Here is a great one in the middle of Vermont. My husband was raised on German food and really appreciates it done well. He gives this restaurant five stars right to the beer selection. Its a regular on our trips to Vermont.

I would not advise to order Roast Half Duckling. It was well seasoned but rubbery. Not something that you would want to pay almost $40 for and not being able to chew.

We dined as a party of 15 and found the prices outrageous, the food mediocre, and the service slow and obnoxious. Food was nowhere near authentic, portions were minuscule, and the menu prices truly exorbitant. $4.50 for a Pepsi? Go elsewhere. The atmosphere is kitschy. We were thoroughly disappointed even though we came in with low expectations. Never again.

Because I honestly have nothing negative to say about this fabulous restaurant in what I am going to call the Greater Rutland area, I will keep this review short and to the point... Whether you are skiing/riding one of the nearby mountains, staying in Rutland for business, or live locally, you would be missing something special if you didn't give... More

This restaurant was recommended by the Front Desk at our hotel, and we were somewhat pleased with our experience. We had called to make reservations because it was "leaf-peeping" season and our Anniversary. When we arrived we were seated immediately at an extremely tiny, cramped table. We politely asked to move to another table, since there were several open, but... More

Hadn't been to Countryman's in several years. Was just as good as we remembered it. Husband had lamb that he raved about. I had crab cakes that were so light they could have floated. Spaetzle tasted the way my mom and aunts made it. Chef made my meal from scratch to accommodate my crazy food allergies. Even without the typical... More

This restaurant is located in an old farm house just off Highway 4 near the Best Western. The building itself makes for an interesting atmosphere. With its focus on Austrian and German food, it offers a selection of good German beers. The oyster appetizers were excellent as were the salmon & shrimp special and crab cakes with king crab on... My husband loves German Food. This restaurant was recommended by a previous chef who worked their and owns a Mexican restaurant now. Been 2 years to get over there to try it. It was well worth the 1 3/4 hour trip. Service was outstanding, atmosphere was very warm and cozy on a cold winter night and the food is beyond... More

Visited Rutland Vermont with family and friends this past weekend. This restaurant was recommended by locals and we were all very pleased! Austrian food was wonderful, service was good with a great atmosphere. Prices were a little high but this is ski season in Vermont!
