Hadn't been to Countryman's in several years. Was just as good as we remembered it. Husband had lamb that he raved about. I had crab cakes that were so light they could have floated. Spaetzle tasted the way my mom and aunts made it. Chef made my meal from scratch to accommodate my crazy food allergies. Even without the typical... More

We love this restaurant and the German food. Sauerbraten is my favorite. We live in the area and try to eat here whenever we go to Rutland (which is just down the road). The only negative is the service is slow. It appears that the way food is served in a very methodical method is intentional since it happens every... More

This restaurant is located in an old farm house just off Highway 4 near the Best Western. The building itself makes for an interesting atmosphere. With its focus on Austrian and German food, it offers a selection of good German beers. The oyster appetizers were excellent as were the salmon & shrimp special and crab cakes with king crab on... My husband loves German Food. This restaurant was recommended by a previous chef who worked their and owns a Mexican restaurant now. Been 2 years to get over there to try it. It was well worth the 1 3/4 hour trip. Service was outstanding, atmosphere was very warm and cozy on a cold winter night and the food is beyond... More

Visited Rutland Vermont with family and friends this past weekend. This restaurant was recommended by locals and we were all very pleased! Austrian food was wonderful, service was good with a great atmosphere. Prices were a little high but this is ski season in Vermont!

This restaurant is located in an old house. As a result it has a very warm and homey atmosphere, but that's about all that this restaurant has going for it. The service was very poor, with no requests for appetizers. Similarly, the menu was fairly limited - it's never a good sign when several "specials" are just repeated from the... More

Having made a reservation and arriving only 5 minutes early we were very surprised to find that the Chef had closed the kitchen. We could see people still eating inside. After banging on the door a young lady informed us that the kitchen was now closed and provided no explanation. Since there are few restaurants in the area this created... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by several locals. It was a rainy, cool night, but the perfect cozy place for dinner. The bread was excellent and the salads were loaded with fresh ingredients. The food was German/Austrian and very authentic. My husband loved his schnitzel. Veggies were served family style. There were two large groups celebrating events, so service... More
